Historia
T. R. Fehrenbach brilliantly delineates the contrasts and conflicts between the many Mexicos, unraveling the history while weaving a fascinating tapestry of beauty and brutality: the Amerindians, who wrought from the vulnerable land a great indigenous Meso-American civilization by the first millennium BC; the successive reigns of Olmec, Maya, Toltec, and Mexic masters, who ruled through an admirably efficient bureaucracy and the power of the priests, propitiating the capricious gods with human sacrifices; the Spanish conquistadors, and much more.

Know Mexico know the World
Revisado: 11-29-24
I like this book a lot. Ferenbach explains Mexico‘s very complex history. Bloody existence and human sacrifice followed by colonial conquest by Spain, France, exploitation by England and the United States, troubled class warfare and economic misery all of it leading to the present, mysterious, wonderful, exotic, country. Makes me want to travel through the land.

Historia
Two decades after the publication of The Black Book of Communism, nearly everyone is or at least should be aware of the immense evil produced by that devilish ideology first hatched when Karl Marx penned his Communist Manifesto two centuries ago. Far too many people, however, separate Marx the man from the evils wrought by the oppressive ideology and theory that bears his name.

Marxist fundamental transformation of western civilization — not good

Authoritative and immediate, this is the classic account of the most powerful of the American Indian tribes. T. R. Fehrenbach traces the Comanches' rise to power, from their prehistoric origins to their domination of the high plains for more than a century until their demise in the face of Anglo-American expansion.

Clash of worlds, old and new
Revisado: 08-24-24
I wish I had read this book years ago. It explains so very much about the world today, as it explains the wild West and native American Indian conflicts of yesterday. Truly a clash of worlds, religions, cultures.

A stevedore on the San Francisco docks in the 1940s, Eric Hoffer wrote philosophical treatises in his spare time while living in the railroad yards. The True Believer—the first and most famous of his books—was made into a bestseller when President Eisenhower cited it during one of the earliest television press conferences.

This was a very thought-provoking book. I wish I’d read it 40 years ago. It explains a lot about politics at every level, local, national, international, formal, and informal.

Got questions? This book has the answers!
Revisado: 05-09-24
This book is great! Indeed, it answers many of the questions that I had. And it confirms much of what I had otherwise learned over the years. It does it with amazing conciseness, and yet with full explanations and citations to controlling scripture. I wish this book had been available 20 years ago, and that I had read it. I recommend it to everyone.

Historia
Turning the other cheek does not mean standing by while the enemies of God dismantle Christian civilization and brainwash our children. Decrying the cowardice that masquerades as meekness, Eric Metaxas summons the Church to battle. An attenuated and unbiblical “faith” based on what Bonhoeffer called “cheap grace” has sapped the spiritual vitality of millions of Americans. Paying lip service to an insipid “evangelism,” they shrink from combating the evils of our time. Metaxas refutes the pernicious lie that fighting evil politicizes Christianity.

Tough love for someone as lazy and hesitant as me
Revisado: 04-23-24
This is very good message. Everyone who wants freedom should read it. Metaxis proves his points through history and the Bible. And, really, anyone who has lived a little while and paid attention to the world even a bit should already know this. It is tough to hear for someone as lazy and hesitant as me.

Providence
Revisado: 04-02-24
This is an amazing story. The audio version was read to perfection. Shipwrecked with no weapons, puny, naked and starving, Providence saved Cabeza da Vaca and his companions. He was certainly no warrior, he was starving and sickly all the way, he was not particularly cunning or crafty. But he was a good man, a good person, treating everyone he encountered with brotherly, love and respect. Enslaved at times, beaten, and treated horribly, he persevered, and became respected, and held in high esteem by his captors.
