Storytelling with the classic telling of folklore!
Revisado: 10-29-18
I met this author at a convention in Portland. I skimmed the book, but it only took a few paragraphs for me to decide it was something I wanted to read. I bought a hard copy, something I never do, and added it to my list of books to read. With a hectic life, I could not find the time to get through my list very quickly.
With little time available, even though I had only read a few paragraphs, I was still intrigued. I decided to listen to Black Rose on Audible in what little spare time I had, it was a small book it would be a smooth listening experience. I was wrong.
The story itself is a beautiful piece of writing by K.L. Bone. It tells a story spanning hundreds of years, and with every word, I wanted more. The fight scenes are well written; you'll find yourself seeing the fight instead of trying to use your imagination to figure out what is going on.
Be prepared to feel anger, sorrow, and an array of other emotions. This book will capture your soul and leave you wanting more of the writer's works.
Sara Dunham's ability to present this epic story vocally was the magic weaving of storytelling. Her pacing of the book is somewhat slower than most books, but that's what makes it so entrancing. I found myself sitting in my car, in a parking lot, just listening to Ms. Dunham's reading of this wonderful fantasy story.
The nine-plus hour book with my crazy schedule should have lasted atleast a week, but I found I went through it in less than three days.

Here, together for the first time, are the shorter works of best-selling author Jim Butcher - a compendium of cases that Harry and his cadre of allies managed to close in record time. The tales range from the deadly serious to the absurdly hilarious.

Nice fill-in book...
Revisado: 10-01-12
If you could sum up Side Jobs in three words, what would they be?
It was making me dizzy trying to figure out what book I was going to have to buy to just read all of the novella and short story books for this series. This book was perfected and filled in alot of storyline holes.
What did you like best about this story?
Everything about Butcher's books are great.
Which character – as performed by James Marsters – was your favorite?
All of them. I was very disappointed when I found out that Marsters did not do Ghost Story. The book was not the same. James Marsters is Harry Dresden.
If you could take any character from Side Jobs out to dinner, who would it be and why?
That is too hard a questions to answer. Karrin Murphy is just so cool so if I was forced to make a decision it would be her....of course only after Harry Dresden.
Any additional comments?
James Marsters should always be the writer for these books.

Deborah Harkness’s sparkling debut, A Discovery of Witches, has brought her into the spotlight and galvanized fans around the world. In this tale of passion and obsession, Diana Bishop, a young scholar and a descendant of witches, discovers a long-lost and enchanted alchemical manuscript, Ashmole 782, deep in Oxford's Bodleian Library. Its reappearance summons a fantastical underworld, which she navigates with her leading man, vampire geneticist Matthew Clairmont.

What made the experience of listening to A Discovery of Witches the most enjoyable?
Jennifer Ikeda did a wonderful job. Her ability to convey each voice and personality of characters made teh book much more interesting than just reading the book.
Which character – as performed by Jennifer Ikeda – was your favorite?
Yseabeau (Yes it is spelled that way in the book!)
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
I have listened to the book three times since September 2011.
Any additional comments?
Can't wait for the sequel!

The reason to get audio books
Revisado: 04-21-09
I've been a Jim Butcher fan for a long time, and have read the previous Harry Dresden books at least twice each. Listening to James Marster put his immersive spin on these familiar characters adds a completely new and compelling aspect to these books and for me the reason to get these on audio. If Audible can get all the previous Dresden books read by Marster, I would buy them all, and see it as another yet new opportunity to get into the Dresden stories.
