Historia
Siobhán O'Sullivan's hopes for a quiet Irish Christmas are dashed when the local Santa turns up dead in a carnival dunk tank of hot cocoa. Now instead of hunting down holiday gifts, she's pursuing a heartless killer. Seems the dead Santa was no angel either, stealing neighborhood dogs to guide his sleigh. But was it his holiday antics - or worse - that led to his death by chocolate?

Should be read after Book 2!
Revisado: 12-10-23
This is a cute little Christmas novella in a wonderful series. Like other reviewers, I was not crazy about the narrator. She was just not right for this story. The regular series narrator is much better.
My main purpose for writing this review is that this story is listed as coming after book 3, but it actually takes place before. This book should be read, or listened too, before 3.

Revisado: 06-23-23
I have been so pleased with this series! It is truly adorable. Poppy is such a lovable witchy, baking sleuth. And Gateau has me staring at my black cat waiting for her to do something to show me she is hiding familiar powers.
You will not be sorry you spent a credit on this series.

A wonderful book read at break-neck speed!
Revisado: 05-23-21
This is a fun little short that is an off shoot to Amanda M. Lee’s “Wicked Witches of the Midwest”. I have been wondering about Annie’s origin story for awhile, and had to hunt for this book on Audible because it isn’t listed with the rest of the series.
I really enjoyed this book and listened to it in one evening. I was not overly impressed with the narrator. I don’t know if she normally talks that fast, or if they sped up her reading during editing, but oh, my goddess was it fast! It sounded like an average Jane was just reading to me. There was differentiating between the characters, her voice remained the same all the way through. There were also several instances where lines were repeated.

But life in The Big Easy is anything but quiet. Or easy. Her furnished apartment resembles an old French brothel, and her aging ex-stripper landlady has some rather odd policies.

On the fence
Revisado: 03-23-21
First, the narration is fabulous! Ms. Mrozek does a phenomenal job.
The books themselves are not what I have come to expect from a cozy mystery. The main character, Franki, feels very negative to me. There is SO much focus on her being 29/30 and not being married - it gets old fast. The LandLady, while both very genuine and hilarious, is also very crass and over the top at times. Franki’s business partner, Veronica, is incredibly smart, but also a little dense sometimes.
If you like a clean, wholesome cozy, this is not for you. Personally, I think this set of books would be a lot better if it was toned down some. That said, there are parts of these books that had me laughing out loud and nodding my head in agreement. I love the NOLA setting. And I really, really love the 3 books in 1.

Not what I expected
Revisado: 11-23-20
I have read and listened to many Wanda Brunstetter books that I have deeply enjoyed, in fact I can’t remember one I haven’t liked. This book, however, seems very negative in verse, and overall, nothing like normal Amish fiction. Several of the characters, including the Amish characters, are mean-spirited and often disrespectful.
I will finish the series, but doubt I would ever return to this book.
Rebecca Gallagher as a narrator is as fabulous as always.

Incredible!
Revisado: 11-29-19
This is not your typical Amish romance; and what a treat that made it! I was delightfully surprised at how well this book addressed a “darker” side of Amish life, without taking creative license with the rest of the story.
The 2 books in this series are are probably two of my favorite listens all year.

A journey worth taking
Revisado: 05-26-19
After finishing “Amy Snow”, I decided to listen to “Stars Across the Ocean”. I was not sure anything could hold my attention after such an utterly captivating novel as “Amy Snow” (truly if you haven’t read it, you must!), but Ms. Freeman’s novel did not disappoint! The only reason I did not give it a full 5 stars is because I found the present day part rather boring. I felt it could have been left out, and the letter could have been presented a different, more compelling way. The narration was superb. You will not want to miss this book!

Revisado: 05-24-19
I really have no idea what made me purchase this book, it isn’t generally something I would read, but I am so glad I did! I was completely absorbed by this enchanting novel. The characters were well developed, and easy to visualize. The story flowed well, and never dragged. I can definitely see myself listening to this again. I am also planning to buy the book. The only thing left is to decide if I want to listen to “Florence Grace” or “The Hourglass” first!
