Rookie firefighter Emily Micah is determined to prove herself as a new recruit to the elite Jude County Hotshots wildfire team. Narration ruined it for me
Revisado: 04-08-25
I'm sad about this one. I really love Susan May Warren books, but I just can't keep listening to this narrator. I gave it a good try, but his voice just doesn't fit the characters at all, and he over pronounces a lot of words. So sorry to miss out on one of her books.

Historia
Just as Homeland Security Agent Addison Leigh reaches the pinnacle of her cyber investigation into a firearms smuggling ring, she's attacked and left for dead. Her estranged husband, ICE Agent Mack Jordan, is notified that she's at the hospital in a coma. He may have let his past military trauma ruin their short marriage, but she never gave up on their relationship, and he remains her next of kin. Mack rushes to her bedside, where he promises to hunt down the man who attacked her. Mack failed her once when he bailed on their marriage, and he's not about to let her down again.

I always love Susan Sleeman books and have listened to most all of them. I am only in the second chapter of this one and I am struggling to continue. It's not the story; all of Susan's books are great. It's the narrator. She's reminiscent of the overly dramatic narrators of old black and white TV shows ... "stronger than a locomotive, faster than a speeding bullet..." It makes me wonder if the authors actually sign off on the narration, or if they're solely the choice of Audible.
