Historia
From #1 New York Times-best-selling author Nora Roberts comes a novel of a woman who needs nothing, a man who sees everything, and the web of deceit, greed, and danger that brings them together - and that could tear them apart… As a professional house-sitter and freelance writer, nothing ties Lila Emerson down - not her work, not a home, and definitely not a relationship. She spends her life moving from one job to the next, sometimes crashing at a friend's Manhattan apartment.

Wealth porn
Revisado: 09-04-22
Wealth porn combined w rescue fantasies masquerading as “independent woman finds true love.” Add in a few hackneyed “he gazed into her eyes as his strong lean hands etc etc “ and u get the picture. I like a bit of escapist chick lit, but this gives the genre a bad name

Revisado: 05-19-21
This narrator should stick to American books. Her English accents are excruciating and she hasn’t done her homework:making someone from Devon sound like a cockney is like giving a southern bell a

A dog’s breakfast of a book
Revisado: 03-08-19
Too many characters and motivations, not to mention red herrings, overblown prose, and downright strange English (eg ‘he reneged against every rule in the cosmos ‘.). The way the killer is finally exposed is a complete cop-out: seems the writer had to end it somehow. Not worth the time.

Historia
For millions of Londoners, the morning of 17 December is just like any other. But not for Sam Wren. An hour after leaving home, he gets onto a tube train, and never gets off again. No eyewitnesses. No trace of him on security cameras. Six months later, he's still missing. Out of options and desperate for answers, Sam's wife, Julia, hires David Raker to track him down.

unnecessarily gruesome, awful narrator
Revisado: 08-29-17
Tho this book depicts a disturbed psychopathic killer, it provides a degree of gruesome detail far beyond what's needed to drive the plot or characterisation. The book drags on and on, not helped by a narrator who reads it like a shopping list with an appalling 'British' accent. An auditory ordeal

Historia
It is 1856. When three men are murdered in Cornwall, Amos Hawke, a Cornish detective working from London's Scotland Yard, is sent to investigate. He finds lodgings with one of the murdered men's wives - and her daughter, Talwyn. But while Amos's relationship with Talwyn gets off to a bad start, she is to prove crucial in helping him bring her father's killers to justice. A wonderful tale from a master storyteller, Though the Heavens May Fall has its heart and soul in the lore and landscape of Cornwall.

appalling narrator
Revisado: 10-20-15
story is average historical romance: fine to pass the time while doing something else. Narrator, however, is so grating that I may abandon this. As other readers have said, he reads in a kind of patronising chant (i never knew a chanting voice could be patronising,...but it can!) Also, the cornish accent slides away into a kind of irish american. That would be bearable, were it not for the 'chanting', which ruins any possibility of enjoying, rather than enduring, this book.

Historia
In this revolutionary look at the brain, best-selling author, psychiatrist, and psychoanalyst Norman Doidge, M.D., introduces both the brilliant scientists championing this new science of neuroplasticity and the astonishing progress of the people whose lives they've transformed.
Introducing principles we can all use, as well as a riveting collection of case histories, The Brain That Changes Itself has "implications for all human beings, not to mention human culture, human learning and human history."

Informative, but...
Revisado: 01-27-15
There's some interesting information in this book, including the history of the concept of neuroplasticity, its relationship to psychoanalysis, and the general reluctance of the medical establishment to accept the overturning of established, but wrong, ideas. Unfortunately, this is vitiated by the way in which the author 'plugs' specific establishments which treat conditions (eg stroke, learning disabiLities) based on the use of neuroplasticity. This turns much of the book into an infomercial, complete with glowing anecdotes. Even if true, this feels inappropriate, and isn't what I paid for!

Avoid this narrator
Revisado: 04-18-14
The story is complelling in its picture of a sociopathic opportunist who manipulates everyone in her path, including her children. The narration, however, is awful: the narrator chants rather than reads, and portrays the main character (who is in her mid-late thirties) with the accent and intonation of a demented valley girl. Very grating, and spoils what would have otherwise been a very good book
