Just as good!
Revisado: 03-14-15
Highest compliment I can give you is that this was every bit as delightful as OFF TO BE THE WIZARD. The narrator is phenomenal.

Strange, Unique situation develops Intrigue
Revisado: 10-08-12
One of the more original modern-day explanation of how a government would deal with fantastical creatures and phenoms (like X-files, Men in Black, etc.). A woman wakes up in a body/situation that she has no memory of and must fake being a government agent for a clandestine agency that investigates and responds to supernatural events. She must also find out who in the agency tried to kill her and why. The details are compelling (like most agents have unique supernatural powers themselves and are assigned a position in the 'court' as a chess rank: Bishop, Rook, Pawn, etc.) and I found myself listening as often as I could to uncover the layers of mystery and threat. Fun!

Interesting and Compelling subject-Telling Less So
Revisado: 10-08-12
Is there anything you would change about this book?
Perhaps detail or cover other Navy Seal missions to get a broader context. The author does this a bit, but it still seems to be very narrow view of experience.
How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?
Detail the entire US Military's search for UBM (Osama Bin Laden), and other missions were called off before they got a green light.
What aspect of Holter Graham’s performance would you have changed?
Reader could have used more tension in his telling...
Any additional comments?
I definitely enjoyed this audiobook, but the experience left me wanting...

Historia
The Civil War may be over but a new war has begun, one between the past and the present, tradition and technology. On a former marshy wasteland, the daring Massachusetts Institute of Technology is rising, its mission to harness science for the benefit of all and to open the doors of opportunity to everyone of merit. But in Boston Harbor a fiery cataclysm throws commerce into chaos, as ships’ instruments spin inexplicably out of control. Soon after, another mysterious catastrophe devastates the heart of the city.

Boston under siege by madman!
Revisado: 04-20-12
Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?
Sure. This is a great example of historical fiction that immerses into a time period and location so completely it's like being transported. I'm a huge fan of Matthew Pearl after his breathtaking THE DANTE CLUB. But here THE TECHNOLOGISTS throws the reader into a perfectly rendered Boston circa 1866, just after the Civil War. Some madman manipulates science to attack the city of Boston in elaborate spectacles of masterfully planned chaos and death.
What other book might you compare The Technologists to and why?
Well, The Dante's Club, of course because here too Pearl takes an era and owns it!
What three words best describe Stephen Hoye’s performance?
Proper, competent, ivy-league
Was The Technologists worth the listening time?
Yes, absolutely.

A Total Blast!
Revisado: 04-19-12
Would you listen to Ready Player One again? Why?
Just finished listening to "READY PLAYER ONE" by Ernest Cline and am still enjoying the vibe of such an awesome read/listen. I may listen again someday when I want a pulse-driving thriller that takes me back to my own childhood growing up in the 80's. What a fantastic, virtual thrill ride! Anyone who grew up in the 1980s (and/or sci-fi) will dig this all-encompassing tribute. I haven't ever listened to an audiobook this fast. It's a total geek funfest (especially if you love 80's movies, music, videogames, TV...)Wil Wheaton is superb, a joy to listen to as he weaves the story through his clear, invested and quite well-ranging voice. (He's even mentioned in the book!-so sweet!)This book is masterful storytelling through the canvas of the 1980 pop culture plus a sci-fi future that's only 25 years in our future, a future that's both grim, escapist and . . . epic.
Who was your favorite character and why?
Walt. He's a great underdog to root for and he's done his homework, so he deserves his progress through the contest.
Which scene was your favorite?
The final climax with MecaGodzila! Hands down epic clash of the titans
If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?
Your Game Will Begin In Three . . . Two . . .
