An essential, fun listen for all parents!

KJ Dell'Antonia's wise, yet conversational tone, made for great, accessible reading. This book is essential for parents who feel as if something is off, if parenting is not making us as happy as we had hoped it would. I will be giving this book away for the holidays and love love love it!

Awful writing, abandoned halfway through

Would you try another book from Greta Gleissner and/or Dina Pearlman?

The author is a fan of assigning odd action verbs to inanimate objects - "funneling thoughts" for example, and it got to the point that I had to give up. Could not even listen to what could have been an interesting story.

What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)

Entertaining book, terrible performance

Would you try another book from Judy Melinek, MD and T. J. Mitchell and/or Tanya Eby?

I would listen to another book from the author but will avoid this narrator. Her attempts at men's voices rendered the book almost unlistenable. I'm glad I pushed through, though, particularly for the last couple of chapters, which were great.

What other book might you compare Working Stiff to and why?

Stiff. Same topic.

Would you be willing to try another one of Tanya Eby’s performances?

NO.

Was Working Stiff worth the listening time?

Eh...not so much.

Right off the bat, she speaks of how she's known her husband "almost literally" half her life. Almost literally? Yikes. Didn't she have an editor?

And the narrator is annoying. Grating, even. Oh well, I was looking forward to this one, but don't think I will buy the whole thing.

His best yet!

For fans of Augusten Burroughs, this is a real treat. Snippets of stuff you know from Running with Scissors weaves through his best writing yet in the form of essays about his life, relationships, neuroses, and career. He's a great reader, too, and his words and voice combine to wonderful effect. I laughed out loud a couple times in public while listening on my iPod, and while I must have looked like a wacko, I had a great time.

Got bored and found narrator (author) grating

I really wanted to like this book, but every time I turned it back on, I found that I simply wanted to get away from Richard Cohen's voice as it was grating and monotonous. The book itself was somewhat boring, and the author repeats some of the material over and over again during the narrative. I kept going back because I wanted it to redeem itself, but it never did. I could see how someone going through the journey of Multiple Sclerosis might find it engaging, but even then, Cohen's style undercuts the drama the subject would otherwise hold.
