Historia
Set in the London of the 1660s and of the early 21st century, The Weight of Ink is the interwoven tale of two women of remarkable intellect: Ester Velasquez, an emigrant from Amsterdam who is permitted to scribe for a blind rabbi, just before the plague hits the city, and Helen Watt, an ailing historian with a love of Jewish history. As the novel opens, Helen has been summoned by a former student to view a cache of 17th-century Jewish documents newly discovered in his home during a renovation.

good story
Revisado: 01-30-23
I enjoyed the story but it was a little hard to get into. I also found it difficult to relate to the characters- the majority of them were not likeable. Having said that though, it was worth the initial difficulty.

Historia
In Amanda Skenandore's provocative and profoundly moving debut, set in the tragic intersection between white and Native American culture, a young girl learns about friendship, betrayal, and the sacrifices made in the name of belonging. Told in compelling narratives that alternate between Alma's childhood and her present life, Between Earth and Sky is a haunting and complex story of love and loss, as a quest for justice becomes a journey toward understanding and, ultimately, atonement.

narrator sounds like google maps
Revisado: 12-29-22
The narrator's voice sounds like she is going to tell me to take a left in 500 feet. Eventually I learned to live with it. Characters are complex and the story was compelling.

Historia
Boston, 1662. Mary Deerfield is 24 years old. Her skin is porcelain, her eyes delft blue, and in England she might have had many suitors. But here in the New World, amid this community of saints, Mary is the second wife of Thomas Deerfield, a man as cruel as he is powerful. When Thomas, prone to drunken rage, drives a three-tined fork into the back of Mary's hand, she resolves that she must divorce him to save her life.

WORST. NARRATION. EVER
Revisado: 10-15-22
The narrator should not be allowed to narrate another book. Her voice lacks inflection and emotion, making the text seem flat. The use of other voices to read quotes by characters in the book is superfluous. I suspect the story is very good but suffered from the performance.

good story, annoying female presenter

The female performer in A Murder is Announced uses a few extraordinarily annoying voices. I had to speed through it to make sure I didn't go nuts.
