couldn't stop listening
Revisado: 02-03-24
I was only hear because I'm on a Sean Crisden bandwagon. I will listen to anything he narrates. His narration of Erasure was splendid and I came here expecting the same. he did good, but I think it's more about the material he is given rather than his performance. erasure stretched him with a warm up, workout, and cool down; and here he only had to warm up. anywho, the book was good, I enjoyed it. I couldn't stop listening bc I needed to know who the little heifer chose. in the end, I'm satisfied.

not disappointed
Revisado: 11-18-23
I have heard so many successful actors swear by this book that it was the secret to success. i thought maybe I was going to blow up after reading it. Actually I have, just not in the ways I thought. and maybe that's the point of the book. Realizing that you already have what you seek.

Historia
Olivia McAfee knows what it feels like to start over. Her picture-perfect life—living in Boston, married to a brilliant cardiothoracic surgeon, raising their beautiful son, Asher—was upended when her husband revealed a darker side. She never imagined that she would end up back in her sleepy New Hampshire hometown, living in the house she grew up in and taking over her father’s beekeeping business. Lily Campanello is familiar with do-overs, too. When she and her mom relocate to Adams, New Hampshire, for her final year of high school, they both hope it will be a fresh start.

OMG, no you didnt
Revisado: 11-18-23
I am glad I listened to this book rather than reading. it wouldn't have been as masterful. I remember hearing Lily's voice and thinking, why does she sound like that. it wasn't until I was hours into the book, in the smack-dab middle and Picoult drops a bonbshell. and it all makes sense. Thank you for the art of life.

could totally relate
Revisado: 11-18-23
I'm 5 years Black, after coming to terms with my own racial identity development. I could totally relate to Belle, although my passing for white was different and not as dangerous as it was for her. I appreciated the authors for telling her story and the narrator was superb.

this book has been on my to-read list for years. I love David's work, having only read Squirrels Seeks Chipmunks. This book was amazing and I loved hearing it in DVid's voice. I thought the live performances added to it.

First time reading short stories...won't be the last
Revisado: 11-18-23
I love novels. Losing myself in 65k words or more is how I rest. So when a coworker recommended this book for my 5 hour drive home, I hesitantly took her up on the offer. I had no idea that short stories packed so much point. this book was amazing. I had to rewind the e ding of EVERY last story bc I was like, "Wait, what?" My favorite story is Snow, but I loved them all. the narrator was good too. Plus, I live in Jax where the stories were told and the author lives so that's an added bonus.

Historia
What would it be like to live in a well-rested world? Far too many of us have claimed productivity as the cornerstone of success. Brainwashed by capitalism, we subject our bodies and minds to work at an unrealistic, damaging, and machine‑level pace—feeding into the same engine that enslaved millions into brutal labor for its own relentless benefit. In Rest Is Resistance, Tricia Hersey, aka the Nap Bishop, casts an illuminating light on our troubled relationship with rest and how to imagine and dream our way to a future where rest is exalted.

Thank You
Revisado: 11-18-23
I avoided this book for as long as I could. I ignorantly thought it was about taking naps and even though I am restless I did not care to have anyone tell me how to rest. My father died recently and the loss shifted me, my personality, my work ethic, everything. I listened to this book at last and am forever changed. I believe the author--I am not a machine, I need to slow down, I am worth having boundaries, and I can trust the divine to provide for me. I will never be the same. I also loved the no must, no fuss storytelling of the author.

Historia
The number one New York Times best-selling story about American Olympic triumph in Nazi Germany, the inspiration for the PBS documentary The Boys of '36, broadcast to coincide with the 2016 Summer Olympics and the 80th anniversary of the boys' gold medal race. Out of the depths of the Depression comes an irresistible story about beating the odds and finding hope in the most desperate of times - the improbable, intimate account of how nine working-class boys from the American West showed the world at the 1936 Olympics in Berlin what true grit really meant.

Just got into rowing
Revisado: 09-22-23
I'm a 50 year old Black woman who just got into rowing. The coach recommended this book to my cohort of rowers. I thought I would feel as disconnected reading this book as I did from the being only Black rower. Wrong! This book made me fall in love with the sport, and with the boys in the boat. I appreciated the narrator's ability to make the story come alive. I felt every moment of the book. Great read.

Historia
It’s easy to be yourself when who and what you are is in vogue. But growing up Black and gay in America has never been easy. Before Billy Porter was slaying red carpets and giving an iconic performance in the celebrated TV show Pose; before he was the Tony Award-winning star of Broadway’s Kinky Boots; and before he was an acclaimed recording artist, actor, playwright, and all-around diva, Porter was a young boy who didn’t fit in.

Revisado: 03-17-23
I saw this book on a shelf at the library and checked it out when I saw Billy's face. Shortly after the intro, I realized I needed to hear his voice. I was not disappointed. Porter delivered, hunty! I appreciated learning more about him and will forever be a fan.
