Straightforward reading, fascinating subject
Revisado: 07-01-17
This is an audio version of a book first published in 1992, so the information presented is only current up to that date. For anyone interested in criminal profiling this is a great book. The narration is straightforward, almost lecture-like, and I was never bored.

Historia
The legendary writer and performer of Monty Python and Fawlty Towers fame takes listeners on a grand tour of his ascent in the entertainment world John Cleese’s huge comedic influence has stretched across generations; his sharp irreverent eye and the unique brand of physical comedy he perfected now seem written into comedy’s DNA. In this rollicking memoir, Cleese recalls his humble beginnings in a sleepy English town, his early comedic days at Cambridge University (with future Python partner Graham Chapman), and the founding of the landmark comedy troupe.

One of the most enjoyable listens I've ever had
Revisado: 04-02-17
If you could sum up So, Anyway... in three words, what would they be?
Excellent, Excellent, Excellent.
Who was your favorite character and why?
This is a memoir. Cleese is the main character, reading about himself. No one else could possibly do it better.
What about John Cleese’s performance did you like?
Everything. Except there were a couple of times when his voice began to fail, due either to age or to laughing at himself, and that made him difficult to understand. Those times were brief, and in my opinion added to the honesty of the performance.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
Lots of laughter. The reading is some 13 hours long--it flew by.
Any additional comments?
I am a long-time Python fan. I also loved "A Fish Called Wanda," so I am almost certainly biased toward the writer and the material. But I found this an extremely interesting and entertaining memoir. The insights into 1960's English comedic television were fascinating to me. I only wish Cleese had not stopped with the birth of Monty Python's Flying Circus, but regaled us with stories about the movies (I would have liked to hear more about A Fish Called Wanda) and post-Python years as well.

Poor Reading Sabotages a Good Story
Revisado: 06-10-16
Would you try another book from Erin Dutton and/or Theresa Stephens?
From Erin Dutton, yes. From Theresa Stevens, only if she was reading non-fiction of the driest sort.
How could the performance have been better?
Stevens' reading sounded far too much like a news report instead of a romance--and this book was a romance. There was no emotional nuance at all, no attempt to inject any feeling whatsoever. The consistent cold tone made it impossible to 'get into' the story, which deserved much better.
Did Officer Down inspire you to do anything?
Seriously consider reading over listening in future.
Any additional comments?
I hate to be cold but--don't allow Stevens anywhere near fiction ever again.

Standard thriller, superb performance
Revisado: 03-20-16
What did you love best about The Gray Man?
This is standard thriller fare, but well-plotted and exciting. Within the book, I liked Court Gentry's integrity, but overall Jay Snyder's narration and voice performance was fantastic.
Who was your favorite character and why?
Court Gentry is not your typical hit man. He has a personal integrity, a soft spot for children (subtle but present), and tries his best to kill only the truly bad guys.
What does Jay Snyder bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
Snyder gave every character a different voice, using accents, inflections, and tone to make scenes come alive in a way that reading the words never could. A tour de force; I would (and will) gladly listen to other books he has narrated.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
As I said before, this was standard thriller--but quite well done.

Not Bad
Revisado: 04-07-15
Decent story, but the narrator read like she was working under a deadline, and had to rush things, which detracted from the story.
