Historia
It was only a few years after the starry-eyed young couple got married when scary news threatened to take the wind out of their sails. But Sean Dietrich's wife, Jamie, wouldn't let it. She dared to hope for and plan for a great big adventure, and she made him promise to do it with her. For love and the promise of biscuits along the way, Sean—who was never an athlete of any kind—undertook the bike ride of a lifetime and lived to talk about it. In this true-life tale, storyteller Sean Dietrich shares their hilarious, touching, and sometimes terrifying story of the long bike ride.

A Charming Story Read by the Author
Revisado: 08-16-23
"You are my Sunshine" is a charming IRL story of a couple who steps (or pedals!) completely out of their comfort zone to bike (trike!) a 350-mile trail from Pittsburgh PA to Washington DC. I listened to the audiobook first, which is narrated by the author, and loved it so much that I had to buy the printed version as well. The author's self-deprecating humor had me literally laughing out loud! Sometimes authors don't make the best narrators, but this isn't the case for "You are my Sunshine" and hearing the story in Sean Dietrich's actual voice greatly contributed to my enjoyment. It reminded me of sitting around the campfire when I was a little kid and my favorite uncle was telling the story. I highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a good read about someone (else) achieving goals that they didn't even know they had and the growth that accompanies reaching those goals.

Engaging historical fiction
Revisado: 06-05-22
The Cape Doctor is engaging; the story well told, and historical references give a peek into colonial South Africa. I enjoyed seeing how a woman forged her way in the very masculine world of the early 1800s. The narration was excellent and I feel it gave depth to the emotions of the characters. I was so intrigued that I had to find out if this book was based on a true story - and it is! I don’t know if the relationship that is central to the story (don’t want to give any spoilers) developed in real life, but after you listen, check into Dr James Barry on warhistoryonline.com to discover the parallels.

Good Story, Weird Narration
Revisado: 05-05-14
Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Jim Bond?
Any of the other narrators of the series.
Any additional comments?
This is my second time listening to the Sword of Truth series. The cadence and inflection for this book is just weird, especially for Zedd's voice -- kind of sing-songy. Other characters are not as bad, but I can't wait to get through this one so I can move on to the next one in the series with a different narrator.

What did you like best about The Vampire Diaries: Stefan's Diaries #1: Origins? What did you like least?
I wish I had known that this was based on the TV series. I love the TV series, don't get me wrong, but that's not what I was looking for. I was looking for more books by L.J. Smith in the Vampire Diaries series. I kinda feel deceived by Audible for listing them as L.J. Smith.

Historia
The last years of King Charles IX's reign in France were dominated by religious wars between Catholics and Protestants. Queen Margot begins in 1572 with the marriage of Marguerite de Valois to Henri de Navarre. Marguerite is King Charles' sister and the daughter of Henri II and Catherine de Medici, all firm Catholics. Henri de Navarre is a Protestant who later will become the beloved King Henri IV. Several important political events have led up to this marriage including the mysterious murder of Henri de Navarre's mother, cleverly plotted by Catherine de Medici. The wedding brings noblemen from all over the world to Paris resulting in the notorious Saint Bartholomew Massacre, where thousands of Protestants are killed. In this inventive and compelling novel, Dumas brings an extraordinary period of history vividly to life with much excitement and romance. The lively prose and wonderfully constructed plot tell of court intrigues and forbidden love, of beautiful queens, duchesses, and noblemen, suspense, conspiracies, betrayals, assassinations, superstitions, poisonings, and sumptuous feasts. With well-known historical figures as main characters in a dangerous and breathtaking game for power, Queen Margot tells of conspiracies, clandestine trysts, and daring escapes. There is the infamous Catherine de Medici, deliciously evil, constantly plotting and poisoning; Le Mole, a dashing and irresistable young Protestant who becomes Marguerite's lover; the noble Coconnos who provides a great source of comic relief; and at the center of all this intrigue are the good-hearted Marguerite and Henri who are perfect political allies with complicated and fascinating love lives.

This wasn't the best book for me. It's written in "old fashioned" style, so while I find the subject fascinating, I couldn't get past the verbose prose. Someone who likes reading period books in period style would like this book.
