I really wanted to like this, but couldn't get past his conceited tone, slurred words and vulgar language. barely got through 2 chapters.
I truly wish him well though.

Really like him as a writer, but struggled with this one. First chapter was promising and had me hooked, but afterwards felt like I was in a lecture hall that I didn't sign up for.
Very disappointed.

Historia
In this extraordinary work, Beth Macy takes us into the epicenter of a national drama that has unfolded over two decades. From the labs and marketing departments of big pharma to local doctor's offices; wealthy suburbs to distressed small communities in Central Appalachia; from distant cities to once-idyllic farm towns; the spread of opioid addiction follows a tortuous trajectory that illustrates how this crisis has persisted for so long and become so firmly entrenched.

A beautiful, startling, and candid memoir about growing up without boundaries, in which Ariel Leve recalls with candor and sensitivity the turbulent time she endured as the only child of an unstable poet for a mother and a beloved but largely absent father, and explores the consequences of a psychologically harrowing childhood as she seeks refuge from the past and recovers what was lost.

I really wanted to love it
Revisado: 03-14-21
I wish the author would have gotten another narrator. his accent was really hard for me to understand and throughout the chapters his voice would change to an odd tone. Sounded like the editing was poorly done. absolutely no pause between chapters. Would not recommend.

Historia
At 22, Cheryl Strayed thought she had lost everything. In the wake of her mother's death, her family scattered and her own marriage was soon destroyed. Four years later, with nothing more to lose, she made the most impulsive decision of her life: to hike the Pacific Crest Trail from the Mojave Desert through California and Oregon to Washington State - and to do it alone. She had no experience as a long-distance hiker, and the trail was little more than “an idea, vague and outlandish and full of promise.” But it was a promise of piecing back together a life that had come undone.
