A most wonderful book
Revisado: 03-27-21
I had no idea what to expect when this book was recommended to me. I knew nothing of the story....it’s a most wonderful story, actually two storylines woven together very carefully. The reader did an excellent job and the story was incredible. I liked going into it with no idea of the story or any expectations so am leaving this review vague but hopeful it will prompt you to read this wonderful book.

A quiet type of story...good beach read.

I was looking for “just a story” to relax and listen to with no outrageous drama and no bad language and this is perfect. Just what I wanted. Kind of predictable at times but that’s ok. I didn’t care for the French accent of one of the characters....otherwise the reader’s voice was perfect for this story and she did a good job. I’ll definitely read the next book in the series.

Historia
Georgia Chambers has spent her life sifting through other people's pasts while trying to forget her own. But then her work as an expert on fine china - especially Limoges - requires her to return to the one place she swore she'd never revisit. It's been 13 years since Georgia left her family home on the coast of Florida, and nothing much has changed except that there are fewer oysters and more tourists.

Loved the characters in this story and what a great story it was. I don't know how she comes up with such fascinating storylines but she never fails in spinning a great tale. The readers were the perfect tone for this book.

Finally a good book with a good story.......
Revisado: 01-26-15
Would you listen to The Silent Sister again? Why?
Although there are some books that I do listen to again and again, I don't normally do that unless I'm looking for an unanswered question as I already know the ending and the plot twists.
Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?
Yes, the plot had some interesting twists and turns and I looked forward to returning to the book to read each time after I'd have to put it down for a while. It really held my interest.
What about Susan Bennett’s performance did you like?
Susan did an excellent job and was the perfect reader for this book.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Yes, I would have liked to have been able to devote more time to listen at each sitting but I wasn't able to do that.
Any additional comments?
I was surprised when the book ended and I find most endings disappointing.

YOU'VE GOT TO BE KIDDING!
Revisado: 07-26-14
Would you try another book from Anne Rivers Siddons and/or Kate Reading?
Not after reading this book! I was so looking forward to reading a new book by Anne Rivers Siddons because I hadn't read a book of hers for a while and used to REALLY love her books. It was almost as if this was written by a different author. I was so disappointed......
What was most disappointing about Anne Rivers Siddons’s story?
The characters were flat.....lifeless....people you didn't really care about as there was no substance to them....nothing to interest you in them or their lives. It was a huge non-story. The ending was absolutely ridiculous. I'm not happy that I wasted one of my credits on this book. But, I did read it to the end just to see if it got any better. It only got worse. Bad characters, bad storyline and unnecessary bad language.
Did the narration match the pace of the story?
The narration was terrible....especially Baby! Just awful!
If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from The Girls of August?
All of them!

Historia
Laugh-out-loud funny and deeply touching, Beth Hoffman's sparkling debut is, as Kristin Hannah says, "packed full of Southern charm, strong women, wacky humor, and good old-fashioned heart." It is a novel that explores the indomitable strengths of female friendship and gives us the story of a young girl who loses one mother and finds many others.

Another great story with wonderful characters!
Revisado: 08-15-13
Would you listen to The Summer Girls again? Why?
This is one book you will want to listen to over and over. Mary Alice is not only a wonderful author but she reads her own books and, really, I can't imagine anyone else reading her stories to us. She knows her characters better than anyone and becomes them as she's reading her story to us!
The best part is that this is the first book in a trilogy and you will be looking for the second book as soon as you finish this one! But......we'll have to wait until next year and it will be well worth waiting for!
