HOW DISORGANIZED
Revisado: 01-23-25
The “story” is nothing more than a unorganized collection of newspaper articles read by the narrator one after the other, not necessarily in a thematic way, in order of one article after the other that are inter-related. The bouncing around becomes distracting and irritating. This was a waste of a credit, and I do NOT recommend it.

Historia
In this Pulitzer Prize-winning classic, historian Barbara Tuchman brings to life the people and events that led up to World War I. This was the last gasp of the Gilded Age, of Kings and Kaisers and Czars, of pointed or plumed hats, colored uniforms, and all the pomp and romance that went along with war. How quickly it all changed...and how horrible it became.

Truly a Blockbuster of the WWI beginning
Revisado: 11-14-23
The performance by Wanda McCaddon is excellent for the most part - I don’t like ‘false accents’ when they are unnecessary - but she is a spot-on enunciator of words, and the clarity is excellent. Most of all, even after all the years of knowing how the war got started, it is fascinating to hear it recounted in detail. Even more, it confirms to me that Germany could have and should have prevented this debacle for all of Europe. In terms I am familiar with, they “were loaded for bear” and looking for an excuse. Their behaviour in Belgium tells the true tale of what their militarist tradition had led them to be - sadists, fascists, and terrorists of the worst kind.

Historia
As the Allies raced to defeat Hitler, four men, all in the same unit, earned medal after medal for battlefield heroism. Maurice “Footsie” Britt, a former professional football player, became the very first American to receive every award for valor in a single war. Michael Daly was a West Point dropout who risked his neck over and over to keep his men alive. Keith Ware would one day become the first and only draftee in history to attain the rank of general before serving in Vietnam. In WWII, Ware owed his life to the finest soldier he ever commanded, a baby-faced Texan named Audie Murphy.

Heartbreaking, Breathtaking, and Inspirational

The story is well worth the listen and the grandeur of the heroic feats are beyond belief. It is injured only by the false accents, falsettos and drawling of the narrator.

Historia
The world has changed. Now, when someone is murdered, they almost always come back to life—and there are professionals, called “dispatchers”, who kill in order to save lives, to give those near the end a second chance. Tony Valdez is a dispatcher, and he has never been busier. But for as much as the world has changed, some things have stayed the same. Greed, corruption, and avarice are still in full swing.

Historia
On June 6, 1944, the greatest armada in history stood off Normandy and the largest amphibious invasion ever began as 107,000 men aboard 6,000 ships pressed toward the coast. Among them were 14,500 Canadians, who were to land on a five-mile-long stretch of rocky ledges fronted by a dangerously exposed beach. Drawing on personal diaries as well as military records, Juno Beach: Canada's D-Day Victory, June 6, 1944 dramatically depicts Canada's pivotal contribution to the critical Allied battle of World War II.

Very Interesting History
Revisado: 03-08-23
In light of the current political controversies in the United States, it was absolutely pleasant to listen to how co-operative both political partys were during the first years of the 1900's. At the conclusion of the book, I really did wish that Roosevelt had given in to the clamor for him to be re-elected.

Historia
Margaret Atwood's dystopian masterpiece, The Handmaid's Tale, has become a modern classic - and now she brings the iconic story to a dramatic conclusion in this riveting sequel. More than 15 years after the events of The Handmaid's Tale, the theocratic regime of the Republic of Gilead maintains its grip on power, but there are signs it is beginning to rot from within. At this crucial moment, the lives of three radically different women converge, with potentially explosive results.

I am sorry it’s Finished
Revisado: 10-24-19
I did not buy or read The Handmaid’s Tale until the “hype” about The Testaments became public, so I listened to them back to back. The stories are spectacular, each in their own right, and The Testaments is a “tour de force” in my view. (SPOILER ALERT) I especially miss listening to Aunt Lydia as she plots to bring down the regime that stole her successful life. I was literally on edge the whole time that the escape of Nicole and her sister continued after leaving the Nellie J. Banks. There is a third novel out there Ms. Atwood, if you have the energy.

Historia
The Hopkins Touch offers the first portrait in over two decades of the most powerful man in Roosevelt's administration. David Roll shows how Harry Hopkins, an Iowa-born social worker who had been an integral part of the New Deal's implementation, became the linchpin in FDR's - and America's - relationships with Churchill and Stalin, and spoke with an authority second only to the president's.

Excellent Topic, barely tolerable narration
Revisado: 04-21-19
Harry Hopkins was more than entitled to an updated history, and the author did an excellent job. However, the narrator is abominable: mis-pronunciations, falsetto quotations, and irritating variations in voice tone made listening to the end almost intolerable.
