Excellent listen

5 out of 5 stars

My entire family (7-36) listened to this book on a road trip. Be warned, though, that there are some bad words and disturbing tales. However, the book kept the interest of the entire family and sparked conversation about mental illness and its effects on people and families. Another wonderful work by Ms. Campbell and one that gives us a bit more understanding, and hopefully compassion, about the flight of those dealing with mental illness.

A very good counseling audiobook with specific techniques for identifying some of the whys in your life and taking power over them. I plan on listening to the book again to try more of the techniques.

Cambell continues to entertain

I've read two of Campbell's books prior to this one - 72 Hour Hold and Your Blues Ain't Like Min. What You Owe Me is more of a multi-character sketch like Your Blues Ain't Like Mine. It's interesting and I like Campbell's how people's lives fit together style. If connected character sketches is your thing, you'll enjoy this book.

Historia
2 out of 5 stars

I'm an avid admirer of Toni Morrison's work and have absolutely loved all of the previous books by her that I have read. This book was absolutely boring. It took months to force myself to listen to it. Some of the subplots were very undeveloped and led nowhere, just hanging there like untied threads. Basically, everyone just seemed underdeveloped and the book as a whole lacked the depth and character I have come to expect from Ms. Morrison.

Women & Money Audiolibro Por Suze Orman arte de portada

Good Info

Great book! Will definitely listen to again.
The first 2-3 chapters are a bit preachy, motivational speaker, but the following chapters, starting around 3 or 4, have alot of good info. The Save Yourself Plan (chapter 4, I believe) basically has a 5 month plan. Each month is focused on a particular financial area, checking accounts, insurance, investments, etc. The plan is very doable, and Suze includes a basic set of goals for each month
In addition to the actual Save Yourself plan, the chapters "You are not on sale" and "The 8 Qualities of the Wealthy Woman" were very good, with essential principles and points.
I really enjoyed this book and have found it very helpful. I plan on listening to it again. I will also purchase the hard copy so that I can more easily access the sections most relevant to me at any given time.

Overall, this book is a good start for those of us looking to take control of our finances and live a life of financial freedom. I am now checking out Suze's other books to find the right next step. I've also enjoyed and recommend "The Millionaire Next Door" by Thomas Stanley and "The Total Money Makeover" by Dave Ramsey.

We listened to this audio book on a long trip from New Orleans to San Antonio and back. The entire family enjoyed it and learned much. Although the author does, as the previous reviewer mentioned, define some words for us, I found this quite helpful for the children and as a parent. (My kids are ages 5-11.) As adults, we often forget that kids of varying ages don't have the vocabulary we have and simply haven't yet taken history or civics yet. So, in addition to the author's definitions being helpful for the children, these instances were also reminders to me that the kids might not know this term. Often we would pause the audio after one of these definitions and discuss the concept defined.

The only complaint I have is that the author sometimes refers to events she does not explain. This is mentioned as an aside. For example, she might be talking about a political figure and say like in event so and so, Senator X campaigned for reform when speaking in Idaho. But she never tells us the significance of event so and so. This may be because the event was explained in one of the earlier volumes. For some reason, we bought Volume 10 first. Now I am going to purchase more volumes, starting with 1!

This is a wonderfully stirring book with a wonderful narrator. On an road trip, my family (kids 4-10, mother, grandmother) listened with rapt attention. We laughed, we sympathised, and the children asked questions that led to wonderful discussions. A wonderful way to spend a trip or an evening at home. Definitely beats hearing "Are we there yet?" over and over.
