Historia
Alice Wright marries handsome American Bennett Van Cleve hoping to escape her stifling life in England. But small-town Kentucky quickly proves equally claustrophobic, especially living alongside her overbearing father-in-law. So, when a call goes out for a team of women to deliver books as part of Eleanor Roosevelt’s new traveling library, Alice signs on enthusiastically. The leader, and soon Alice's greatest ally, is Margery, a smart-talking, self-sufficient woman who's never asked a man's permission for anything.

Great story… great narration!
Revisado: 03-25-23
Can’t say enough about how enjoyable this listen was… the first book I’ve read by Jojo Moyes, and I will certainly be looking forward to more of her work.
The title caught my interest by a review that said “if you enjoyed Educated by Tara Westover you’d enjoy this book”
True words…. Giver of Stars did not disappoint… Bravo! Kudos to Jojo on her storytelling skills and character development… and kudos to Julia who brought the characters to life in audio.

Brilliant!
Revisado: 03-16-23
This was a wonderful read. I became so absorbed in the story, I could hardly stop listening. The narrator’s voice was spellbinding… just incredible how she expertly delivered in so many foreign accents in English, deftly changing between characters. And what an education it was for me to hear in such detail for the first time the terrible daily realities of the war in Italy and in Europe. I loved how the Catholic and Jewish religions were so lovingly and profoundly intertwined into the story with equal love and respect. I will be recommending this experience to many of my friends who love a great read. My thanks to the author and the narrator for this wonderful gift of a book♥️

Really good!
Revisado: 02-11-23
Writing and character development was awesome. The intimate moments were numerous, but skillfully addressed.
But the best thing was Justine Eyre’s ability to switch perfectly from one character to another with a range of very authentic accents.
Overall - a delightful listen!!!

What a great read this was. I couldn’t put it down so read it in 2 days
Beautiful descriptive writing of natural world of marshlands of NC. Character development was brilliant, as was the depth of feelings brought out in the expressions of the emotions of the characters - all brought to life by a truly awesome narrator.
And what an ending!!!! Both thumbs up!

Too much
Revisado: 04-13-22
Too much detail. Too much drama, with often unnecessary complications to the plot, and the whole story became tiresome and boring.
In fact, it should be characterized as a mystery rather than a romance.

Revisado: 02-11-22
I thoroughly enjoyed this book… could barely press the pause button.
The story was strong and well developed; the writing was absolutely great (this from the perspective of a teacher of English Literature); and the reading of it - with all the different voices, male and female - a BRILLIANT execution!!!!
I’m really getting to love this author and reader… BRAVO and BRAVO again!!!!

Great story… voice of the reader was a bit annoying at times
Revisado: 12-16-21
Loved the main characters, but there were so many other supporting figures that it was difficult to keep track.
The reader read well but her voice was grating and harsh on the ear, and I couldn’t differentiate the male and female voices at times
But it was an enjoyable listen overall and I would recommend it.

Perfectly marvelous!
Revisado: 11-19-21
What a surprisingly wonderful novel, and so beautifully performed. It brought back such fond memories of Venice, but it was the description of the music threading throughout the story that was so stirring, it even had me really listening to Beethoven’s Sonata 23, Opus 57 for the first time and experiencing the “Apassionata”!
What a gift this was… a truly delightful read.
