Very Basic Introduction to Thai and Thailand
Revisado: 03-27-12
This is an extremely basic intro to Thai. If you know anything about the Thai language or Thailand, 90% of this will be 'no-duh' info. I still picked up a few new things. Only 10 out of the 25 lessons are really focused on language, and they don't offer quite enough repetition for my liking.
I liked the dynamics of the two narrators, an American man and a Thai woman. They joke, share fun facts about Thailand, and teach some new things. There were some good facts about colloquial Thai that I hadn't heard elsewhere. And since I've never been to Thailand, I learned some things about the culture too.
I can't comment on the written material because I was driving/running the whole time I listened to it and I haven't gotten around to looking at the PDF.
:: This would be a great audiobook if you were going to Thailand for the first time and wanted to get excited for your trip. You'll learn a few words and phrases, but not anything substantial. ::
If you were going to Thailand and wanted to learn some useful sentences and phrases, I highly recommend this company's "Learn Thai - Survival Phrases" part 1 & 2. There are some great phrases and really helpful advice for someone traveling in Thailand.
If you're serious about learning Thai pick up the Pimsleur's Thai lessons 1-30 and listen to all 15 hours twice, doing the exercises out loud. This will give you a great spoken foundation and it has built in reviews. It's perfect if want to learn Thai while commuting or running and don't have time for written material. Once you're done with that go to learnthai podcast and sign up for their premium subscription. I'm finishing Pimsleur and starting learnthaipodcast and they're both great.
Sorry for being so long winded!

Great ideas and lame presentation
Revisado: 02-08-12
What made the experience of listening to The E-Myth Revisited the most enjoyable?
The main idea in this book is fantastic - small business owners need to create a system for their business that allows it to run without them. It's the franchise model - you could sell the system to someone else and they could set it all up and run their own successful business. Or you could walk away from your own business and it would be successful without you.
However the book is told in a weird narrative format that I hated listening to. The author was a door-to-door encyclopedia salesman and I feel like I'm getting sold for half the book. There is also a lot of principles without any real world application.
I loved the example of the hotel the author stayed at in northern california, and the idea that a small business owner has to be a technician, manager, and entrepreneur. Overall I'm glad I read the book, but I'll never read (or listen) to this cover to cover again.
