Historia
The drama that shaped today’s Iran, from the Revolution to the present day. In 1979, seemingly overnight - moving at a clip some 30 years faster than the rest of the world - Iran became the first revolutionary theocracy in modern times. Since then, the country has been largely a black box to the West, a sinister presence looming over the horizon. But inside Iran, a breathtaking drama has unfolded since then, as religious thinkers, political operatives, poets, journalists, and activists have imagined and reimagined what Iran should be.

Must read book on modern day Iran.
Revisado: 03-09-18
This was an excellent book on the pre-, revolutionary, and post-revolutionary Iran (And from an Iranian perspective). A must read for anyone who wants to understand modern day Iran and the internal strife that exists today.

Historia
At the dawn of World War I, the United States was only a rising power. Our reputation was relatively benign among Middle Easterners, who saw no imperial ambitions in our presence and were grateful for the educational and philanthropic services Americans provided. Yet by September 11, 2001, everything had changed. The United States had now become the unquestioned target of those bent on attacking the West for its perceived offenses against Islam. How and why did this transformation come about?

A Beginners Guide to the Middle East
Revisado: 12-12-14
If you could sum up The United States and the Middle East: 1914 to 9/11 in three words, what would they be?
I only need two: unintended consequences
What other book might you compare The United States and the Middle East: 1914 to 9/11 to and why?
N/A
What does Professor Salim Yaqub bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
N/A
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
Not really but the course does make you cringe as you listen to mistakes the US and/or the Mid East have made over the past century.
Any additional comments?
Professor Salim Yaqub is fairly balanced throughout the course and I enjoyed it very much. The one knock is that his narration can get annoying with all of the pauses.

Historia
Historians have long told the story of America’s birth as the triumph of Jefferson’s democratic ideals over the aristocratic intentions of Hamilton. Chernow presents an entirely different man, whose legendary ambitions were motivated not merely by self-interest but by passionate patriotism and a stubborn will to build the foundations of American prosperity and power.

A Gold Standard for Biographies
Revisado: 12-12-14
Would you consider the audio edition of Alexander Hamilton to be better than the print version?
N/A
What did you like best about this story?
Chernow is able to bring to life Hamilton's mighty achievements and his mystifying flaws. Hamilton's life lends itself to being a great biography, but Chernow and the narrator (Scott Brick) make the most of Hamilton's story.
Have you listened to any of Scott Brick’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
N/A
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Not possible... simply too long.
