Historia
As Desmond Shum was growing up impoverished in China, he vowed his life would be different. Through hard work and sheer tenacity he earned an American college degree and returned to his native country to establish himself in business. There, he met his future wife, the highly intelligent and equally ambitious Whitney Duan who was determined to make her mark within China’s male-dominated society. Whitney and Desmond formed an effective team and, aided by relationships they formed with top members of China’s Communist Party, the so-called red aristocracy.

Eye opening glimpse into
Revisado: 02-07-23
Eye opening glimpse into the political and social and business elite class of China in the late 1990s to early 2000s. What eventually transpires into the kidnapping of Desmond’s wife is truly a heartbreaking story of how changing political winds can wildly alter the course of so many lives in the most horrific way imaginable. May we live to be in a world where governments want society to truly flourish (instead of stealing from and destroying) and prioritizing the needs of citizens with truth, freedom, fair judiciary, social support, democracy and entrepreneurship.

Historia
We are in the midst of a mental health crisis. An estimated one in five American adults suffer from some form of mental illness. Despite the billions of dollars spent in pharmaceutical research and the rising popularity of antidepressant drugs, we are more depressed and anxious than ever before. What if we’re looking for solutions in the wrong places? What if instead of treating mental illness with prescriptions and medication, we changed what we eat and how we feed our brains?

Reads like a advertisement for supplements…
Revisado: 01-28-23
Reads like an advertisement for supplements to help treat mental health conditions, but the reality is there are so few to no large sample sized studies on this very subject. The evidence there is, is mentioned in this book and I look forward to reading these studies. Good work in putting this book together. As consumers our homework begins!

Historia
A string of best sellers have alerted us to the importance of grit - an ability to persevere and control one's impulses that is closely associated with greatness. But no book yet has charted the most accessible and powerful path to grit: our prosocial emotions. These feelings - gratitude, compassion, and pride - are easier to generate than the willpower and self-denial that underpin traditional approaches to grit. And, while willpower is quickly depleted, prosocial emotions actually become stronger the more we use them.

Life improves with emotionally success
Revisado: 01-08-23
I appreciate this work by psychologist Dr Destin. He uses explains concepts and psychology studies without putting me to sleep. For years, I have been aware of the importance of emotional intelligence, but the specifics of how to evoke what emotions to improve lives for the better was nebulous to me. He clarified that it is gratitude, compassion and authentic pride and a strong social network. I am glad this was my first book on emotional success. Next up for me is EQ 2.0 by Bradberry. All the best everyone!

Humorous, surprising, and informative, Dr. Peterson tells us why skateboarding boys and girls must be left alone, what terrible fate awaits those who criticize too easily, and why you should always pet a cat when you meet one on the street.

long winded but Great!!
Revisado: 04-06-18
He is a professor of humanities so naturally he has a gift to endlessly string words together and use 1000 words to explain something that can be done in far fewer words. The content here is nothing revolutionary in anyway but his examples bring the rules to life. I recommend the audible book.
