Rest in Power
Revisado: 08-07-23
Whether you liked her music or not, her story is timeless, important and lovely when it's not horribly sad, especially now that her life is over. I happened to love her first album and will now get to know all the ones I missed. I don't think she was mad, but scarred from abuse, traumatized by too much negativity and not receiving the appropriate care. Her heart was, as she demonstrates, was always in the right place. May she rest in power.

Historia
At once profoundly personal and far-reaching, Exit Interview with My Grandmother serves as a meditation on the beginning of a young woman’s life and the series of questions that arise from examining love, loss, family, memory, and death. Moving between cities and centuries, Meyersohn probes her family's Jewish history and her grandparents' relationships in part to decipher her own young queer relationships, but also to examine how we ought to behave in the face of a world riddled with uncertainty and doubt.

Historia
In this award-winning Audible Studios production, Trevor Noah tells his wild coming-of-age tale during the twilight of apartheid in South Africa. It’s a story that begins with his mother throwing him from a moving van to save him from a potentially fatal dispute with gangsters, then follows the budding comedian’s path to self-discovery through episodes both poignant and comical.

Revisado: 04-09-21
Sting has always had a piece of my heart from the moment I heard The Police. His music has shown up in my life at special times so I have a Pavlovian response to his words and music. This production was a lovely gift from Audible. I highly recommend it!

Too rudimentary
Revisado: 06-20-19
This book may be good for youngsters who have never kissed anyone ever. But offers nothing beyond the obvious to experienced adults. And if I had to hear the phrase "going in for the kiss" one more time I could have thrown up in my mouth.

When you listen to this audiobook, you will make many assumptions. You will assume you are listening to a story about a jealous ex-wife. You will assume she is obsessed with her replacement - a beautiful, younger woman who is about to marry the man they both love. You will assume you know the anatomy of this tangled love triangle. Assume nothing. Twisted and deliciously chilling, The Wife Between Us exposes the secret complexities of an enviable marriage - and the dangerous truths we ignore in the name of love.

Time I'll never get back
Revisado: 03-10-19
I imagine what a task it was to craft this story.
But it is story for the sake of suspense with no other reason. There is no satisfaction that comes from trying to follow the plot.
I often avoid bestselling fiction for this reason. I was only curious as to how it would end and gained no bit of education or insight in the process. The mild entertainment was not enough to have made it worth my time.

Historia
In Motherhood, Sheila Heti asks what is gained and what is lost when a woman becomes a mother, treating the most consequential decision of early adulthood with candor, originality, and humor. In her late 30s, when her friends are asking when they will become mothers, the narrator of Heti’s intimate and urgent audiobook considers whether she will do so at all. In a narrative spanning several years, casting among the influence of her peers, partner, and her duties to her forebearers, she struggles to make a wise and moral choice.

Historia
Hourglass is an inquiry into how marriage is transformed by time—abraded, strengthened, shaped in miraculous and sometimes terrifying ways by accident and experience. With courage and relentless honesty, Dani Shapiro opens the door to her house, her marriage, and her heart, and invites us to witness her own marital reckoning--a reckoning in which she confronts both the life she dreamed of and the life she made, and struggles to reconcile the girl she was with the woman she has become.

Historia
M Train begins in the tiny Greenwich Village café where Smith goes every morning for black coffee, ruminates on the world as it is and the world as it was, and writes in her notebook. Through prose that shifts fluidly between dreams and reality, past and present, and across a landscape of creative aspirations and inspirations, we travel to Frida Kahlo's Casa Azul in Mexico; to a meeting of an Arctic explorer's society in Berlin; and to the graves of Genet, Plath, Rimbaud, and Mishima.

Dense But Worth It
Revisado: 12-22-18
While this is not the same kind of story line that's easy to follow and her book Just Kids, Patti's writing is poetry in motion. I recommend it to those who are well read and well traveled or wish to be someday.
