Unexpected “bonus”
Revisado: 10-06-23
I enjoyed the characters and the story, and I’ve really liked the female narrator in all of the Lochlann books. And while I always enjoy some bonus material and keep my expectations pretty low, I was really perplexed at the end at the introduction of male narrator who changed the lead from a very obvious Scottish brogue to a sudden thick Russian accent?! Maybe they were just like “it’s a bonus, we’re gonna do what we want”. LOL and SMH!

The books in this series give me all the best girly feelings. I love how often I laughed most of all. Worth a listen.

Like hanging out with an old friend
Revisado: 04-24-22
I definitely see what others are saying in their reviews…it would have been helpful if Diana and Davina had re-visited their characters/voices before releasing this title. There were a lot of inconsistencies, but made more obvious because I had just finished re-listening to the series and everything was fresh on my mind. But otherwise, I think the story felt very true to the series and I enjoyed it. There wasn’t quite as much passion in this one, but I’m fine with it…it’s kind of gross at this point visualizing grandparents that way, lol.
Worth the read and I’ll keep going as long as she keeps writing (:

I’m glad I didn’t waste a credit…just cost $3 as a Daily Deal. I would have returned it for anything more than that. The narrator was fine, but the story was kind of ridiculous and slow.

Historia
The first time I met Hudson Rothschild was at a wedding. I’d received an unexpected invitation to one of the swankiest venues in the city. Hudson was a groomsman and quite possibly the most gorgeous man I’d ever laid eyes on. He asked me to dance, and our chemistry was off the charts. I knew it wasn’t a good idea to get involved with him, considering the wedding I was at. But our connection was intense, and I was having a great time. Though the fun came to a screeching halt when Hudson figured out I wasn’t who I’d said I was.

Starts cute, ends REALLY DIRTY!
Revisado: 04-15-21
Bought as a Daily Deal for a light listen. Would have been a really decent story, but near the last couple of hours it got super dirty, like awkwardly descriptive. Completely unnecessary...would have been way sexier if they’d left a little to the imagination!

Struggled through this one...
Revisado: 02-24-21
This was a very cool idea, but it fell short in a lot of ways. The narrating was pretty awful...the Australian narration on English and Scottish accents was really bad and hard to get through. And then the story completely leaves out an ending for one of the very main characters.
But the part that made it worthwhile was learning about this very strange time in history and learning about the lives of the people who now make up Australia.

Characters replaced by over-spirituality
Revisado: 10-01-20
I’ve been very excited for this sequel to come out and was pretty disappointed with the story. She spent way too much time on the spiritual aspect and really neglected the characters. It was nice to have the three main POVs have their own narrator, although the male voice didn’t really match the character very well and had a lot of hard stops. The women were perfect fits! I’ll definitely will read the last installment, but I really hope she gets back to the characters next time.

Historia
Following Jane from her childhood as an orphan in Northern England through her experience as a governess at Thornfield Hall, Charlotte Brontë's Gothic classic is an early exploration of women's independence in the mid-19th century and the pervasive societal challenges women had to endure. At Thornfield, Jane meets the complex and mysterious Mr. Rochester, with whom she shares a complicated relationship that ultimately forces her to reconcile the conflicting passions of romantic love and religious piety.

How have I never read this book?!
Revisado: 09-16-20
I have no proper words for how much a loved this story. I have ignored it for years, as I alway thought the Bronte sisters to be a little more dark than my beloved Jane Austen. This book and movie will now go into my annual listen/watch list in the Top 5!
Thandie Newton absolutely slayed her narrator role and brought every character to life, and did so well with the few foreign language sections. There was the slightest struggle with some of the male voices, but her Mr. Rochester was faultless, and that’s really all that matters. I wish she would narrate more classic titles! I’m not sure I would have loved it quite as much without her.
I listen to books pretty much all day while I do life, and it’s always a great feeling to find a gem that I’ve been missing. This will encourage me to rethink some of my preconceived notions and dig into some classics.
