Historia
It is the turn of the 18th century in Frankfurt, Germany, and young Gutle and Meir Amschel Rothschild struggle to establish themselves in the cramped, restricted Judengasse. But when Meir’s talents as a novice banker catch the attention of a German prince, Meir is afforded entrée into the European world of finance and nobility, and the Rothschilds’ lives are changed forever. As proud as Gutle is of her husband’s success, she is also cautious - very much aware of the fact that her husband’s rise is tied to his patrons’ willingness to “see past” his Jewishness.

History repeats itself
Revisado: 02-12-25
Reading history, in this case the diary of Mrs Rothschild, makes us aware of the fact that we as human beings don’t learn from our mistakes and that history, unfortunately, repeats itself. We are now living in times of great technology and advancement but still antisemitism is in every corner of the world. The last words of Mrs Rothschild are the most important: unity will make us strong. Am israel Chai

Historia
It's been seven years since Chelsea Martin embarked on her yearlong postcollege European adventure. Since then, she's lost her mother to cancer and watched her sister marry twice, while Chelsea has become one of the most talented fundraisers for the American Cancer Coalition, and with the exception of one annoyingly competent coworker, Jason, her status as most successful moneymaker is unquestioned. Then Chelsea is forced to acknowledge that her life stopped after her mother died and that the last time she can remember being happy, in love, or enjoying her life was on her year abroad.

It was an ok story. You can see from the beginning what is going to happen. No mystery, almost bland. Something you can read if you have no other option

Historia
After Tova Sullivan’s husband died, she began working the night shift at the Sowell Bay Aquarium, mopping floors and tidying up. Keeping busy has always helped her cope, which she’s been doing since her eighteen-year-old son, Erik, mysteriously vanished on a boat in Puget Sound over thirty years ago. Tova becomes acquainted with curmudgeonly Marcellus, a giant Pacific octopus living at the aquarium. Marcellus knows more than anyone can imagine but wouldn’t dream of lifting one of his eight arms for his human captors—until he forms a remarkable friendship with Tova.

It was full of unnecessary details. Didn’t like the story almost at the end (2.5 hours left) I decided to quit. I completely lost interest… it was repetitive. Don’t waste your credit on this book

In the tradition of Orange Is the New Black and Jerry Stahl's Permanent Midnight, Amy Dresner's My Fair Junkie is an insightful, darkly funny, and shamelessly honest memoir of one woman's battle with all forms of addiction, hitting rock bottom, and forging a path to a life worth living.

Messy
Revisado: 06-19-21
It jumps a lot in time. It’s hard to follow… it’s sad to see someone with so much hatred to herself, having the love of her parents and friends. Hopefully she’ll stay sober and with someone to help her recover.

Excellent read
Revisado: 06-05-21
I was raised in a South American country where race was not a topic we are concerned with. Living in America for almost twenty years has made me think and educate myself on the topic of racism. This book is a great way to start conversations and maybe begin to change the way we think about others that are different and also try to understand what they feel in certain (most ) situations. I was immersed in the story from beginning to end, I couldn’t stop reading.

Historia
Laurie is sure love at first sight doesn't exist anywhere but the movies. But then, through a misted-up bus window one snowy December day, she sees a man who she knows instantly is the one. Their eyes meet, there's a moment of pure magic...and then her bus drives away. Certain they're fated to find each other again, Laurie spends a year scanning every bus stop and cafe in London for him. But she doesn't find him, not when it matters anyway. Instead they "reunite" at a Christmas party, when her best friend, Sarah, giddily introduces her new boyfriend: the man from the bus.

Great book
Revisado: 10-29-20
I loved every single character. The story is so interesting and so many things I didn’t know about black history. The author gives us a broad view through history and connects all characters and historical facts in a cohesive manner. I really enjoyed this read.
