For 8 yrs near the end of my working days, I worked at OEM Fabricators in Woodville, WI, weekend overnight shift. It was a company that peaked around 350 employees before the late Bush economic crash, but on those weekend nights, 6pm Friday to 6am Saturday and the same the next 2 days until early Monday morning, we were a skeleton crew of 8 of us in that big plant, 8 of us picked largely because we were capable of figuring what to do and how to do it with no significant supervisory folks around.

On those nights, I listened constantly to Audible on headphones. For the first 6 hours, up to midnight, I'd listen to the Wall St. Journal (amazingly, on the deeper pages I'd get stuff like some of the best music recommendations anywhere, one notable one being Cross Canadian Railway - the other CCR - fronted by Cody Canada ). After midnight, I'd switch my Audible to a book. Anything from Atlas Shrugged to Willie Nelson's autobiography (he probably, like Joe Nirmaier here, is due for a sequel 😉 ). I'm pretty sure Jeff Hutchins narrated some of what I listened to, because that great voice is SO familiar, in a good way. Kind of like Walter Cronkite in the simple sound of credibility. (Equally valuable in fiction and news!)
