Historia
My name is Kazimir Wolfe. People call me "Kaz", except they don’t. I never use my real name; it’s too dangerous, for me and for anyone I meet. I’m on the run from the law, who think I killed my aunt, and from whoever did kill her, because they want to finish the job. So, I move around a lot, working construction or whatever job I can find. It’s a lonely life. I don’t let anyone get close...people who get close to me end up dead. Why? I’m a wizard. The world’s only wizard, as far as I know.

Not my usual thing but....
Revisado: 04-23-25
Pros: moments of hilarity. Narration was good but could've been excellent (didn't quite capture all the jokes).
Cons: everything else. But this isn't my kind of thing. I gave it a go based on reviews and bcos it didn't cost any credits; stayed for the humour.
Had an action/violence focus that got old in places (I don't mind that sort of thing if it's handled with humour but this wasn't, the humour tended to be elsewhere - in fact I wouldn't be surprised if this were a writing partnership, feels a little schizophrenic).
But I enjoyed this overall and, considering how long it's been since I found something new I enjoyed in audible, I'd say this would even be worth a credit; but if it weren't for the dog I definitely would not have enjoyed it. Duke was hands down the best character

After seeing her maybe-mobster boss murder a guy, Delaney James assumes a new identity and pretends to be a mail order bride. She finds her groom-to-be living in a town that celebrates Halloween every day. Weird. But not as weird as what she doesn't know. Her groom-to-be is a 400-year-old vampire.

mixed bag.
Pros: good narration - I'd actually skimmed this a bit as a book a while back and wasn't impressed, so the fact that I purchased it and then managed to finish it (albeit, over an extended period), is all down to the narrator. also has likeable, relatable characters
Cons: far too many tstl moments - I despite when this is used as a plot device, especially when it is needlessly and obviously complicating things purely to extend length. LAZY writing!
I won't be continuing this series, unless they offer it complementary

Incredibly immature 'heroine'
Revisado: 03-04-25
This story had potential but unfortunately the main character is an immature, self-absorbed, little twat.
If it weren't for that it would've have been an interesting tale of recovery from loss and the support of family.
I kept waiting for it to improve but it never did.
Waste of a good narrator imo

decent book but not the best Crusie
Revisado: 02-14-25
If you're unfamiliar with Jennifer Crusie's books then this will probably seem like a decent book to you - logically plotted, decent writing and well narrated.
However, for those of us who love Crusie for her fun stories and hilarious dialogue, this book just falls far short.
I had read it once, years ago, and knew it wasn't her best, but due to the lack of good Crusie options on Audible I opted to buy it anyway. No better but no worse than I'd remembered; and it does compare well against the majority of romantic fiction on Audible.
[But I would steer you towards Agnes And The Hitman or the Dempsey series]

Too much ongoing drama and entirely unnecessary (and contrived) misunderstandings. Read more like YA than adult fiction.
I much preferred Mistletoe Manor, by the same author. Far superior to this

disappointed with long awaited ending
Revisado: 01-11-25
I had had high hopes for this book as I felt that the teenagers were a great, comedic addition in the previous book. unfortunately they were more or less the only thing worth reading about in this book.
The culminating action scene didn't hang together at all well, and this is my major complaint for this book - felt rather too stupid, illogical and contrived (unworthy of Ms Harper).
Overall, the book was OK and I don't feel like I completely wasted a credit (but I had some spare so it was fine). If you are keen to complete this series and you like Molly Harper then go right ahead (but moderate your expectations). but I would not recommend this if you're feeling out the author's style (not a good representation imo) and haven't read the previous 2 books in this series [it had been quite a while since I read the previous book and ages since the first book; and I found I was mixing up the names of some of the characters for a while - definitely not a standalone book - I'd go so far as to suggest you go back and skim thru the last one b4 taking on this one, if it's been a while; there are a lot of characters, including all the ghosts, by this time - and then she adds a bunch more].
I feel this book had a very promising beginning and then the author just lost her way a bit. if Ms Harper has an editor she's paying them too much (this felt a bit like a self-published book, lacked polish)

writing style was good but story was illogical; and far too short for the point the author was trying to make (no doubt due to years of being forced to truncate ideas to the essentials)

He's a tattooed, blue-eyed jerk who has no business being a single dad. He's also my next-door neighbor, and after negotiations, my grumpy employer for the summer. I don't put up with cocky males normally, and I certainly won't put up with that man making noise at all hours of the day and night while he builds his glamp-ground. I offer advice, but the stubborn fool just turns his tractor on to drown me out. He returns the favor by pushing my buttons and making me so angry I can't see straight. And I really want to be able to see his gorgeous body in those well-worn jeans and backward hat.

utterly beneath the talents of 2 good narrators - nothing they could do to save it.
immature f* fest. can't remember if I paid a credit for it or not but in either case it wasn't worth the time required to listen (even though I wasn't paying much attention as I was doing some diy; it was still so annoying I had to regularly switch to something else to get a break)

BORING
Revisado: 01-08-25
this was so unbelievably boring. and annoying. and immature (after a while it felt like none of the characters had matured past high school).
I had high hopes bcos I quite enjoyed the 2 books preceding this 1; and I thought it would be a fun seasonal read. instead it took me forever to finish bcos I could only tolerate it in snippets (and only bcos I'm 1 of those Scrooges who insists on trying to get bang for my buck).
I would definitely not recommend this book - waste of a credit (and even if it was free it would still be a waste of your time).
However, if you enjoy clichéd, trite stories, go right ahead. I'll give it this much - the characters were decently well formed and the dialogue has its moments.
NB: it's not even a slow burn - contains regular sex scenes. if that's an issue for you, you won't like this book. if it isn't, I have to warn you, the sex scenes were so slow and formulaic they were boring af (so I wouldn't even describe this as a sexy read).
While I find the premise of the 2 next books intriguing, I will not be wasting my time or credits there after this one.
This author may find her efforts better employed in ya fiction

Historia
Ever have one of those days where life just plain sucks? Welcome to my last three months - ever since I caught my can’t-be-soon-enough-ex-husband cheating with his paralegal. I’m 35 years old, and I’ve lost my NYC apartment, my job, my money, and frankly, my dignity. But the final heartache in the suck sandwich of my life? My great-aunt Maggie died. The only family member who’s ever gotten me. Even after death, though, she’s helping me get back up again. Too bad that bravado only lasts as long as it takes to drive into Huckleberry Hills. And see the house.

I get the feeling this was supposed to be funny
Revisado: 12-31-24
I think with a better narrator this could have been quite funny. Unfortunately, with *this* narrator constantly highlighting all the drama, any jokes fell totally flat. I skimmed through hoping for improvement that never happened.
I just can't be doing listening to constant whining. as I say, I got the impression this is not the author's intention - I think there may have been some snark in there - but the narrator, while a competent reader, isn't a talented voice actor and fails to bring it out (failed to perceive it?).
So no, I would not recommend this recording. But, should I find myself with time on my hands I may try to read it; or I'd be prepared to give it another chance if they record a new version (with a *better* narrator - someone like Andi Arnt).
My 3☆ rating reflects my ambivalence.
I also could not relate to a woman who allowed someone to make her miserable for years without taking steps to alter that. I don't care how you've been raised, becoming an adult means becoming your *own* person (but, unfortunately, I've seen far too many people during my long career in healthcare, who have never bothered to grow up)
