Roger Eschbacher’s text jumps with adventure and wonderful characters. With the charm of C.S. Lewis writing William Goldman, Eschbacher crafts a cunning, heart warming tale of odd friends who take on doing the right things when the proper heroes have been incapacitated.

Gaglini’s narration is fun to listen to and full of colorful, distinct characters. A perfect marriage of narrator and book. Your kids will love this title and you’ll enjoy the journey listening along with them.

the audiobook of Revival is a perfect marriage of King's ability to write with a lot of heart and David Morse's ability to soft-sell the text into a compelling reality. I really believed Morse as he read the story, becoming Jamie Morton without theatrics or melodrama. He let the text do the talking and gave it enough personality to convince the listener the words were his own, without trying to coerce a reaction. I would listen to just about anything this actor reads.

The story itself meanders rather than skips toward it's conclusion and lacks some of the signature bite of Kings earlier works. It's not so much a tale of suspense as it is a tragedy. As other reviewers have noted, this story is more cathartic about life and choices than about horror and the grim. It is clear that King is saying a great deal about our lives on this planet and the point of religion. And to that end, he writes with a lot of heart and vulnerability - saving all the horror for it's conclusion. This book is written delicately with just enough tension to help one stay interested in it's 50-years of memoir; there are enough clues to keep one guessing at what is going on in this story; but, the pace is methodical and prone to rabbit trails with no answers from the protagonist until the very end.

***Warning: Contains Spoilers ***
The answers given for the events of this narrative are the bleakest I have ever read (heard.) And while I admit I am not as familiar with King's more modern works, I found this book shocking (no pun intended,) as it is the first I have read (heard) from King that didn't have a sense of relief or growth or hope at the end. The information Morton gives us at the end of his memoir points to a meta-physical reality so bleak that it makes the Nihilist position look like a bedtime story for children. And in that, the book finds its horror and punch. This book leaves one pondering after reading (listening to) it, but not in the right way. It is dark and grim and just hopeless. Finally, it is unsatisfying. One never learns why Reverend Charles Jacobs loses his wits and decides to try to punish the God he is angry at, when the loss he experiences is so common to man. His reaction and lifelong devotion to revenge is over-played and we are never given a reason. Similarly, with such a tragic and hopeless ending, we are also robbed of the light at the end of the tunnel or the hope in tragedy. In essence, are told that this life is not only pointless, but precursor to a greater hell awaiting us - realm without mercy, justice or goodness of any kind with no hope of escape. Thanks, Stephen.

Reitman's book comes across as well-researched and thorough. There is enough in the background, history, and portrait of LRH to discredit Scientology as a cult movement without even getting to the so-called "church's" policies and practices. Reitman not only takes the listener behind the curtain, but deep into the holy of holies of this secretive and litigious organization.

Where does A Storm of Swords rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

A Storm of Swords is by far the longest and the most in-depth of the Song of Ice and Fire canon. It marries the political intrigue of A Game of Thrones with the battlefields of A Clash of Kings and gives the listener everything he or she wants from this epic of a Medieval parallel Earth. Roy Dotrice is in fine form and narrates the story as only a well-trained actor can. As I undertook the following audiobooks in the series, it became clear that criticisms of Mr. Dotrice are accurate in that his performance after A Storm of Swords was inconsistent at best. However, his handling of George R.R. Martin's third epic is nothing short of brilliant. If only I could have listened to this book all at once! Though it's length prevented that, it still got me hooked and I found myself tuning in every spare moment I had.
