Historia
When Jack and Elizabeth meet as college students in the '90s, the two quickly join forces and hold on tight, each eager to claim a place in Chicago’s thriving underground art scene with an appreciative kindred spirit. Fast-forward twenty years to married life, and alongside the challenges of parenting they encounter cults disguised as mindfulness support groups, polyamorous would-be suitors, Facebook wars, and something called Love Potion Number Nine. For the first time, Jack and Elizabeth struggle to recognize one another, and the no-longer-youthful dreamers are forced to face their demons.

Great writing, excellent narration

Another outstanding book - every bit as good as the Nix. Tragic yet hopeful and always entertaining.

Historia
A masterpiece from the Orange Prize-winning, New York Times number one best-selling author of Commonwealth and Bel Canto: a story of love, family, sacrifice and the power of place. Lose yourself in the story of a lifetime – the unforgettable Sunday Times best seller. A story of two siblings, their childhood home and a past that they can’t let go. Like swallows, like salmon, we were the helpless captives of our migratory patterns.

Meandering
Revisado: 04-13-22
Engaging at first, this novel meandered awkwardly towards an spluttering denouement.
I love Tom Hanks and he maintained a strong performance. The same cannot be said for the author, who seemed to have given up somewhere in the middle.
The non-chronological narrative worked in the first half of the book, but then started to grate.
A pretty good book, but no masterpiece.

Historia
Born to a prominent Chicago judge and his stifled socialite wife, Mia Dennett moves against the grain as a young inner-city art teacher. One night, Mia enters a bar to meet her on-again, off-again boyfriend. But when he doesn't show, she unwisely leaves with an enigmatic stranger. With his smooth moves and modest wit, Colin Thatcher seems at first like a safe one-night stand. But following Colin home will turn out to be the worst mistake of Mia's life.

Overly Long and Predictable
Revisado: 08-17-14
What would have made The Good Girl better?
The first two or three chapters are actually pretty engaging. Then it is just repetitive. A shorter and tighter plot might have been preferable. There were also irritating factual and grammatical errors (particularly in regard to the English mother's speech - "gotten", for instance jarred horribly in the reader's received pronunciation).
None of the characters, with the possible exception of the mother, was particularly sympathetic, which in turn made the book less compelling.
Has The Good Girl turned you off from other books in this genre?
No. This writer has been compared to Gillian Flynn and while there are similarities, the comparison flatters Mary Kubica. Gillian Flynn knows how to maintain suspense through intelligent narrative.
How could the performance have been better?
The readers did their best with (at times) corny material. The narrator reading Colin Thatcher made the mistake of reading female-spoken lines in a sort of falsetto.
You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?
As I have said, the first two or three chapters showed real promise and the plot was interesting. However the alleged twist was signaled almost from the outset and, consequently, the book did begin to drag quite early on.
