Historia
On 29 March 1849, the 10-year-old Maharajah of the Punjab was ushered into the magnificent Mirrored Hall at the centre of the great Fort in Lahore. There, in a public ceremony, the frightened but dignified child handed over to the British East India Company in a formal act of submission not only swathes of the richest land in India but also arguably the single most valuable object in the subcontinent: the celebrated Koh-i-Noor diamond. The Mountain of Light.

Too biased
Revisado: 05-03-24
Great info, sadly tainted by way too much bias. Just give the facts, no need to flower it up with how you feel about it.

Historia
Roy Adkins, with his wife, Lesley, returns to the Napoleonic War in The War for All the Oceans, a gripping account of the naval struggle that lasted from 1798 to 1815, a period marked at the beginning by Napoleon's seizing power and at the end by the War of 1812. In this vivid and visceral account, Adkins draws on eyewitness records to portray not only the battles but also the details of a sailor's life: shipwrecks, press-gangs, prostitutes, spies, and prisoners of war.

Entertaining, With Some Caveats.
Revisado: 02-13-24
+ Narrator. Don't listen to the elitists in the reviews. The narrator is great. Full of emotion and well acted.
+ Well structured. Timeline is sound and smaller stories strung together well.
+ Very entertaining.
-- The typical, tired, bad faith British worldview of the period. The writing inserts almost caricature or cartoon image of the main players in the mind's eye, it is so intense. Napoleon is short and surrounded by flies, always frowning, I'm sure. Hero British man of the chapter is glowing, chest puffed out. Warner Brothers. Motivations inserted onto Napoleon in worst faith, which surely can't be sourced, spoken as historical fact.
Overall, the keyword is entertaining. If you are looking for fun in the age of sail, this is a pretty good book. If you are looking for unbiased education, look elsewhere.

Historia
With the papacy embattled in recent years, it is essential to have the perspective of one of the world's most accomplished historians. In Absolute Monarchs, John Julius Norwich captures nearly 2,000 years of inspiration and devotion, intrigue and scandal. The men (and maybe one woman) who have held this position of infallible power over millions have ranged from heroes to rogues, admirably wise to utterly decadent.

Read if you have read Four Princes
Revisado: 03-31-23
Having read Four Princes and mostly getting this book for more in depth information on the Popes Alexander to Paul IV, I was a little disappointed that section of this book seems to be lifted word for word from Four Princes.
That said, any Norwhich book is great and I will go through the rest of it at some point. Can't give it less than five stars regardless of the above.

Fun, Light, Worthwhile Fantasy
Revisado: 06-28-21
I decided one day something totally different sounded nice. Not a long epic fantasy, or non fiction. Something light, even trashy.
I made an assumption by the cover, said screw it, and picked this one on a whim.
It is not trashy at all in my opinion. It does have sexual content but the great performances help make it sweet instead of cringe. The bouncing bikini elf bodies come across with humor rather than sleeze. It reminds me of humor in anime such as High School of the Dead. Which I’ve always enjoyed that sense of humor, and think is what I was looking for in a fantasy audio novel but couldn’t put my finger on before listening.
This book made me realize a new genre I enjoy. I since have started a few others, by other authors and they aren’t quite as charming. So I need to dig deeper or got very lucky
Very much worth the credit. Story, performance, charm.

Good naration, shallow content
Revisado: 02-28-20
I had heard good things about this book and the subject is timely. However I could have spent less than the run time of this book reading Wikipedia (plus a good hour of Youtube gold cultists) to get the same information. Was hoping for more nuance and facts and stories, but was very dissapointed.
Narration was great though.
