Historia
The irascible A. J. Fikry, owner of Island Books - the only bookstore on Alice Island - has already lost his wife. Now his most prized possession, a rare book, has been stolen from right under his nose in the most embarrassing of circumstances. The store itself, it seems, will be next to go. One night upon closing, he discovers a toddler in his children’s section with a note from her mother pinned to her Elmo doll: I want Maya to grow up in a place with books and among people who care about such kinds of things. I love her very much, but I can no longer take care of her.

Refreshing
Revisado: 04-11-19
I loved this book. I selected it because it was read by my favorite reader, Scott Brick. However, Scott’s style was a detractor for an otherwise delightful listen. Despite that, I thoroughly enjoyed the book

Historia
Fourteen-year-old Greg Dixon is living a nightmare. Attending boarding school outside of Boston, he is separated from his family when a pandemic strikes. His classmates and teachers are dead, rotting in a dormitory-turned-morgue steps from his room. The nights are getting colder, and his food has run out. The last message from his father is to get away from the city and to meet at his grandparents' town in remote New Hampshire.

Long and a bit tedious
Revisado: 01-18-19
First let me say Scott Brick is my absolute favorite narrator, and I selected this book based on both his connection and the high review ratings. The premise of the book was provocative and it did make me think about things we take for granted, however, I found the minute details and descriptions of food preparations, firewood gathering, etc. to be very tedious. I kept expecting something interesting to happen, but it didn’t. Scott must have been bored to tears. Anyway, I did finish all 22 hrs of listening, but would not recommend this book to anyone

Taken from a group home at age twelve, Evan Smoak was raised and trained as an off-the-books government assassin: Orphan X. After he broke with the Orphan Program, Evan disappeared and reinvented himself as the Nowhere Man, a man spoken about only in whispers and dedicated to helping the truly desperate.

First Hurwitz, but not my last
Revisado: 08-20-18
I chose this book because of its ratings and because I LOVE Scott Brick, especially when he is narrating a suspense novel. This was my first by author Gregg Hurwitz, but definitely not my last. I loved the story and the performance. Bravo, Audible. Just when I was thinking maybe audible books no longer held my interest.

Historia
Born to survivalists in the mountains of Idaho, Tara Westover was seventeen the first time she set foot in a classroom. Her family was so isolated from mainstream society that there was no one to ensure the children received an education, and no one to intervene when one of Tara’s older brothers became violent. When another brother got himself into college, Tara decided to try a new kind of life. Her quest for knowledge transformed her, taking her over oceans and across continents, to Harvard and to Cambridge University.

Pretty dark

I know this is a true account of a woman’s life, but it was too heavy for my liking.
