Historia
From trendy restaurants to city grids, to TikTok and Netflix feeds the world round, algorithmic recommendations dictate our experiences and choices. The algorithm is present in the familiar neon signs and exposed brick of Internet cafes, be it in Nairobi or Portland, and the skeletal, modern furniture of Airbnbs in cities big and small. Over the last decade, this network of mathematically determined decisions has taken over, almost unnoticed—informing the songs we listen to, the friends with whom we stay in touch—as we’ve grown increasingly accustomed to our insipid new normal.

A solid half of the book
Revisado: 07-14-24
This insightful look at current events started strong, offering valuable context in the first half. However, the author's personal tangents later on detract from the overall focus. While the ending disappoints, the initial chapters are worth the read.

From phishing scams to Ponzi schemes, fraudulent science to fake art, and marketers to magicians, our world brims with deception. In Nobody’s Fool, psychologists Daniel Simons and Christopher Chabris show us how to avoid being taken in. They describe the key habits of thinking and reasoning that serve us well most of the time but make us vulnerable—like our tendency to accept what we see, stick to our commitments, and value precision and consistency.

Not many good examples
Revisado: 09-02-23
The book starts well but later the examples are not so interesting specially too much analysis for chess , I was hoping the book has more professional scams , rather than white ones but the book has very good points specially the scientific scams , I enjoy it.

Historia
Even before the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, capitalism was stuck. It had no answers to a host of problems, including disease, inequality, the digital divide and, perhaps most blatantly, the environmental crisis. Taking her inspiration from the 'moonshot' programmes which successfully co-ordinated public and private sectors on a massive scale, Mariana Mazzucato calls for the same level of boldness and experimentation to be applied to the biggest problems of our time.

It can be a good introductory book to this new realm where companies want to capitalize with smells and odors but it felt short , nice try but it just looks like copy paste facts from Wikipedia.

Historia
The world-renowned philosopher and author of the best-selling Justice explores the central question of our time: What has become of the common good? World-renowned philosopher Michael J. Sandel argues that to overcome the crises that are upending our world, we must rethink the attitudes toward success and failure that have accompanied globalization and rising inequality. Sandel shows the hubris a meritocracy generates among the winners and the harsh judgment it imposes on those left behind, and traces the dire consequences across a wide swath of American life.

Good Resume
Revisado: 04-19-21
I really enjoyed this audiobook it has many curious short stories and facts that are not easy to find elsewhere , the pace goes pretty well and to cover so much deep topics in one book looks hard but the author really make it work , considering the big job to summarize so much topics it might feel he missed some points in some chapters probably the author might just avoided chapter 9 as this is only assumptions from him and well the hate is something so universal and it has been spread trough so different media since many centuries ago , anyways overall a very good Book.

It is an axiom of American life that advantage should be earned through ability and effort. Even as the country divides itself at every turn, the meritocratic ideal - that social and economic rewards should follow achievement rather than breeding - reigns supreme. Both Democrats and Republicans insistently repeat meritocratic notions. Meritocracy cuts to the heart of who we are. It sustains the American dream.

Good Statics
Revisado: 11-12-19
The book is like 65% describing statistics made by the author , very good work at the numbers so basically its just explaining numbers and percentiles.
Im disappointed as i was expecting so much of this book specially after hearing the author in some BBC program and the article of his book on the Atlantic , i was expecting a more aggressive approach but its just plain statics and cheesy comparison of Michigan with Palo Alto.

For the past decade, an audacious program called Football Dreams has held tryouts for millions of young boys across Africa, looking for soccer's next superstars. Led by the Spanish scout who helped launch Lionel Messi's career and funded by the desert kingdom of Qatar, the program chooses just a handful of boys each year to train to become professionals; the process is one thousand times more selective than getting into Harvard University.

Football Neocolonialism
Revisado: 09-02-19
The book is very good , the pace is good and not boring a very good choice to listen.
I really recommend the book as is written by an American author so the judgment is neutral and helps to check the rudimentary system (Fueled with millions of euros) developed by Spanish scouts , the author makes a point how the scouting (specially in USA) have changed to don't judge by what you see but to check other variants like statistics , forecast , Sociology studies , Psychological studies ,
It's clear that those are the early years of the academy but the judgment of the Scouts as we can see is very poor they are looking for the next Messi but the game evolves and in fact Josep Colomer didn't find Messi neither Menguita or Reixach , Messi was already playing for a youth academy in Argentina yea there are many people that helped him to get to the big team but that was no real scouting , you can check all the stories of all the people who said that" he discovered Messi" but what really connect all those stories is that they were asked to watch a special kid.
I understand that The author as an insider at the Colomer Scouting Journeys , Aspire academy and in The belgium club needed to write his book in neutral mode , i was hoping a little more criticism from the author but it's ok , it's very sad the situation of the kids but I hope the system somehow get a change although with their problems and controversies the best system for athletes development is the NCAA at very least the kids got an education.

Very good ending.
Revisado: 11-22-18
The audiobook is enjoyable the only problem is the Author focus on examples based on feedback from different readers of his manifiesto. I waited patiently and keep listening to examples until the last 2 chapters where the Author can give his point of view through the methodological approach of Marxist historiography. The most important thing I learned from this audiobook i is how valuable are the caring services specially housework that is so despreciable. but so valuable.
