Not a Fave
Revisado: 11-26-24
I like all the books in the Scarlett Holmes series. This ‘Miss Moriarty’ I did not. From the first chapter it was difficult to follow and went all over the place. It felt as though three separate books were thrown together without real explanations of any of them.
I have many questions to be answered.

Excellent writing. Loved narrator.
Revisado: 08-19-24
I was hesitant about this book because it pushed a lot of PTSD buttons. The writing pulled me in. I felt as if I was there in the kitchens listening to the hatred and hopelessness of those ‘stuck’ in their neighborhood.
This is definitely a book I will listen to again.
I wish that the ‘mother’s revenge ‘ was edited a bit. It just went on too long. I was hoping she going to ‘die already’.

Not what I expected
Revisado: 01-03-20
I've never read this author. I should have done my due diligence.. He may be a fantastic writer. I just didn't care for the lack of a likable character,
I read Michael Connely and enjoy rooting for the good guys. The FORCE really had no one to root for.
I still keep it in my current listens. Every once in a while I will put it on and try to get into it.... no luck yet.

Historia
Some places seem too beautiful to be touched by horror. Summit Lake, nestled in North Carolina’s Blue Ridge Mountains, is that kind of place. But two weeks ago, Becca Eckersley, a first-year law student and daughter of a powerful attorney, was brutally murdered there. Now the town is reeling with grief, and the police are baffled.

The narrator made it sound like a Valley Girl, teen crush story. Although the alternating time lines were catchy, I could have done without most of the ‘Becca’ track.

I really liked this book. But you really had to look beyond hate speech. Which I thought unnecessary.
Do people really talk this way in the 21st Century??

I could not stop listening
Revisado: 03-23-19
The story is sweet and interesting as well as suspenseful. I found myself inserted into this lovely story on many levels.
The only area of improvement I found was the lack of diversity in some voices. The writing quickly cleared that up.
Though not the usual police procedural novel that is my go to story, this book gripped me with its always changing lanes of ‘who dun it’!!

Fast forward
Revisado: 08-18-18
I liked the premise but hated the pace. The narrators slow reading made it much worse. I decided to bump up the speed which made it almost enjoyable.
I really wanted to like this book. The beginning had some good character development and It had some interesting moments but I had to skip a lot as the story became obvious. The ending wrapped up loose ends in a quick and unsatisfying way.

Really wanted to love this. The narrator has a weird accent that was very annoying. I changed the speed to 1.25 and that helped some.

So much more than I hoped for!
Revisado: 04-14-18
I was hesitant to get this book. Although I love murder mysteries with all the gory details, I did not want to read a book that was dedicated to a damaged child. Boy am I glad I went for it. Right from the start I was hooked. It is so much more than I could have hoped.
As the characters were developed I was on a constant roller coaster of conflicting emotions.
With flavors of the Casey Anthony media circus, one cannot help but be repulsed by the so true depiction of our current view of sensationalism as news.
A truly satisfying book.
