A prizewinning foreign correspondent and former New York Times bureau chief in Shanghai and in West and Central Africa, Howard French is uniquely positioned to tell the story of China in Africa. Africans continues losing
Revisado: 07-08-24
This is an eye opening book.
The Chinese are replicating what the European invaders did in Africa. The only difference so far is the absence of continent wide genocide, chattle slavery, forced labor, widespread misinformation, destruction of ancient cultures/theft of ancient cultures.
Like the Europeans, most Chinese seem to be just as racist. It’s not their fault though, Western backed African leaders are the scum that continue to hamper the rise of the continent.
At China is building actual infrastructure, and developing countries like Nigeria, unlike the inherently racist Europeans, whose ideology seeks to keep Africa from developing at all costs.
Howard French is my favorite American Writer on the continent of Africa

BE VERY CAREFUL…
Revisado: 09-11-23
This and ‘story’ by Robert McKee are ok books that will partially help you understand how a screenplay works.
The most important part of this book for me was in chapter 2 when he categorized genres.
The problem with authors and books like these is they are too limiting, always speaking of “rules”, which some of the time are either outright wrong or contradictory.
These American authors are also virtually blind because their idea of what makes a good movie comes from watching only Hollywood movies.
If you are serious about storytelling, please do yourself a favor, watch non Hollywood movies. Countries like South Korea (which currently embodies the zenith of storytelling) and Iran make excellent movies. Hollywood stopped being the standard for great storytelling a long time ago.
Also, ‘Blank check’ (written by the author) was a terrible movie!

The Mongol army led by Genghis Khan subjugated more lands and people in 25 years than the Romans did in 400. In nearly every country the Mongols conquered, they brought an unprecedented rise in cultural communication, expanded trade, and a blossoming of civilization.

Great History Of Asia. The Mongols helped civilize Europe
Revisado: 07-25-23
This is a very detailed historical book on the impact The Mongols on modernizing/civilizing Asia and Europe.
This book is one of the few books that helps put Europeans and their alleged contributions to Modernity into perspective.
Europe is not the cradle of civilization nor the genesis of human knowledge as we’ve been lied to.
Most people aren’t aware of this because since the ascent of British and American Imperialism, a relentless effort has been made to rewrite history/exaggerate the intelligence/contributions of Europeans and minimize/eliminate the contributions of non Europeans.
The negative reviews on this book are most likely from disillusioned Europeans who’ve been taught that the world revolves around them.
The only reason I gave this book 4 stars is because, like virtually every historical book ever written since the fall of the great African empires, Africa’s massive contributions to world civilization was completely Ignored. Arabia was never at any point the richest civilization in the world. The richest civilization in the history of the world was Mali.

Revisado: 07-01-23
Fidel was probably the world’s most wrongfully vilified leader.America spent God knows how much on Propaganda and misinformation concerning him and his country.
This is an educative and detailed biography on the only figure in recent memory who not only started and finished a great revolution, but improved the lives of his people through that revolution.

In A Continent for the Taking, Howard W. French, a veteran correspondent for The New York Times, gives a compelling firsthand account of some of Africa's most devastating recent history. While he captures the tragedies that have repeatedly befallen Africa's peoples, French also opens our eyes to the immense possibility that lies in Africa's complexity, diversity, and myriad cultural strengths.

Curious to know the real reasons why Africa is the poster child for war and poverty? Read this book!
The biggest mistake African leaders of the past made was underestimating Europeans.
European greed/envy and African stupidity / short sightedness was the reason for Africa’s downfall.

Pick up almost any book on early and medieval world history and empire, and where do you find West Africa? On the periphery. This pioneering book tells a different story. Interweaving political and social history and drawing on a rich array of sources, Michael Gomez unveils a new vision of how categories of ethnicity, race, gender, and caste emerged in Africa and in global history.

A Great, detailed history with poor narration.
Revisado: 04-02-23
This is the most detailed book I’ve read on any African Empire. It is incredibly informative.
Unfortunately, the narrator is not so good which I believe is due to the dry writing style of the author.
If you’re seeking detailed knowledge on West African history, this book is for you
This book would be 5 stars if not for the weaknesses I stated above.

Historia
August 2019 saw numerous commemorations of the year 1619, when what was said to be the first arrival of enslaved Africans occurred in North America. Yet in the 1520s, the Spanish, from their imperial perch in Santo Domingo, had already brought enslaved Africans to what was to become South Carolina. The enslaved people here quickly defected to local Indigenous populations, and compelled their captors to flee. Deploying such illuminating research, The Dawning of the Apocalypse is a riveting revision of the "creation myth" of settler colonialism and how the US was formed.

Historia
Born in Blackness vitally reframes the story of medieval and emerging Africa, demonstrating how the economic ascendancy of Europe, the anchoring of democracy in the West, and the fulfillment of so-called Enlightenment ideals all grew out of Europe's dehumanizing engagement with the "dark" continent. In fact, French reveals, the first impetus for the Age of Discovery was not—as we are so often told, even today—Europe's yearning for ties with Asia, but rather its centuries-old desire to forge a trade in gold with legendarily rich Black societies in the heart of West Africa.

A MUST READ Book on World History!!!
Revisado: 11-21-22
If you’re of African descent, this is one of the most important historical books you’ll come across.
Virtually every book narrates world history from the oppressor’s perspective.
For centuries, lies have been told through pseudo scholarly works and mainstream media that so called West Africans have contributed very little (if anything) to world history.
Mr. French’s painstakingly researched work is ground breaking and of great importance. He reveals the essential roles of Africans in birthing the world we know today.

This is a biography of James Baldwin, author, one-time preacher, and civil rights activist. He chose David Leeming, a close friend and colleague, to write his biography and granted him access to his correspondence. Leeming traces his life from his birth in Harlem in 1924 to his self-imposed exile in Europe, his later years as political activist, and his public funeral in 1987.

David Leeming does an excellent job in chronicling the life of a complex human and artist. I’ve yet to read any of James Baldwin’s work. I came across an interview of him on YouTube and was curious enough to listen to this book.
James Baldwin was a minority within a minority, during the height of Jim crow, yet he was able to accomplish great feats.

Experience a bold take on this classic autobiography as it’s performed by Oscar-nominated Laurence Fishburne. In this searing classic autobiography, originally published in 1965, Malcolm X, the Muslim leader, firebrand, and Black empowerment activist, tells the extraordinary story of his life and the growth of the Human Rights movement. His fascinating perspective on the lies and limitations of the American dream and the inherent racism in a society that denies its non-White citizens the opportunity to dream, gives extraordinary insight into the most urgent issues of our own time.

A Great Philosopher and a Flawed human being…
Revisado: 08-05-22
As much as it pains most Caucasian Americans and some self hating African Americans, Malcolm X spoke mostly the truth about America.
America is a country founded on racist ideologies; Racism in America isn’t going anywhere.
Malcolm X’s flaw (one he later realized) is that he followed and believed blindly. It’s why the so called “messenger” Muhammad was able to manipulate, deceive and eventually clap him.
Lawrence Fisburne’s voice acting is excellent.
The autobiography of Malcolm X is probably the most important biography of a 20th century American public figure. In an ideal America, it would be a required reading in all higher institutions.
Every African American parent should have their children read Malcolm’s biography.
