Historia
Jennette McCurdy was six years old when she had her first acting audition. Her mother’s dream was for her only daughter to become a star, and Jennette would do anything to make her mother happy. So she went along with what Mom called “calorie restriction." She endured extensive at-home makeovers while Mom chided, “Your eyelashes are invisible, okay? You think Dakota Fanning doesn’t tint hers?” She was even showered by Mom until age sixteen while sharing her diaries, email, and all her income. In I’m Glad My Mom Died, Jennette recounts all this in unflinching detail.

Brave and funny. Sad and hopeful.
Revisado: 01-12-23
Karen's may be horrified and offended by the title and I'm not sure Jenette herself would be comfortable being called brave, but brave she is nevertheless. She often has the sense of humor that came out in her iCarly character and certainly talks just as fast. I'm pretty sure the recording length of the book would have been 60 to 90 minutes longer had anyone else read it, but it's pure Jenette and makes the book as authentic to herself as she is still learning to be. She is open and honest about abuse and disorders that were absolutely from her mom but still tells of her love for her mom.
We all get character traits, abuse, dysfunction and habits from our parents and we pass some of it on to our own children no matter how hard we try to make it end with us, with our generation. Jenette's story is a brave and funny, sad and hopeful, telling of her journey.

The story made me persevere through the narrator
Revisado: 05-14-21
I've been listening since book one. At the end of that book I did Not intend to continue because the narrator was so incredibly horrid. However, the story brought me back after only a couple weeks and Thank God, the narrator had improved a bit. She's still nowhere near good but the storyline keeps me coming back.
I can't wait to see what happens in the relations between Delphi and the rest of the world, what they do with the rebel Paraxeans and just where the hell that device disappeared to!

Pretty good story.
Revisado: 05-06-21
Out of the hundreds of audible books I've listened to, I have NEVER heard a worse human narrator. It's very nearly as bad as just having a computer voice read it to you. I want to continue the series but I just can't. It's torturous. Such a pity, because it's a solid story.

Historia
When Kate wins an item at her children’s elementary school auction - an all-inclusive trip to SeaView at Sandpiper Bay - she thinks it’s just what her family needs after a decade of career disappointments and a marriage on its last legs. She has no reason to believe that said trip is a Fyre Festival-level fraud and, in fact, the catalyst to her unraveling. But it is. Oh, but it is.

Deep introspection presented in a hilarious way
Revisado: 04-26-21
The main character spouts a diatribe against several of the most hated people in her life while on vacation in a place that seems to represent the real and perceived failures in her life. In the end it becomes deeply introspective. All of this weighty material is presented with wit and banter that leaves you laughing, or at least smiling to yourself, all the way through! Christina Applegate is the perfect performer for this writing!!

"Mac" MacTavish impulsively steals his late sister's neglected children, only to discover it's easier to handle a clipper in a hurricane than steer two ornery brats. What he needs is a nanny until he can take the children back to his parents in America. Bea Cavendish has settled for a quiet life of feathering her father's nest - until he dies, and she's left with an estate she doesn't know how to manage. Good story
Revisado: 04-26-21
The story was as good as any by Patricia Rice. it's the narrator who very nearly ruined the whole book. I'll be watching for and avoiding any books performed by Ms. Kingsolving in the future.

Historia
Dr. Abby Corman has a bold idea: open a stable doorway between our world and an uninhabited parallel Earth. A new world we can use to mine resources to end poverty, grow enough food to end all hunger, and allow for population growth to end overcrowding. What could be a more noble aspiration for a brilliant young scientist? But the path to hell is paved with good intentions....

interesting premise, annoying narrator
Revisado: 12-14-20
Just my opinion but the narrator's different voices can sound like a slightly deeper Betty Boop. Her normal voice is fine. Storyline has an interesting, if far fetched, premise. But if you like Sci-fi and fantasy, aren't you always reading something pretty far fetched? I'll definitely read the next book when it comes out.

Historia
As a young duke, all Nathaniel wants is to be left alone. So when he meets Charlotte, an outspoken American heiress, he is suspicious of her indifference. Too many women have sought - and failed - to catch him. However, Charlotte is unimpressed by his title. She has no interest in English dukes. All she wants is to leave dreary England and travel to the sunny sands of Egypt to see the grand pyramids. Unfortunately, a debutante seeking to entrap Nathaniel gets murdered.

Could have been a decent book
Revisado: 11-22-20
The story is good, but the writing sounds like one of the bad harlequin romances I read when I was 12. And the narrator! I don't often give up on a book, but her southern "accent" is horrid and her voice is monotone. I'm only giving it 2 stars because it COULD have been good.

Decent story but Not epic, annoying narrator
Revisado: 11-20-20
Interesting story but I agree with the reviewer who said the main character starts out a 16 yr old wanting to grow into a mature woman and ends with her being barely 17, completely in love (even lost her virginity) and contemplating marriage. As a story it and the characters work but it needed to be spaced over a couple of books, at least. However, the narrator's voice is perfect for a 16 yr old girl and therein lies the problem. It totally sucks for male voices and for the supposedly deep gruff voices of the first alien race they meet. Hard to listen to at points.

A good fun read with the kind of ending I like
Revisado: 08-04-20
The narrator is definitely not the best at accents, but he's got a good voice and differentiates the characters. It's not deep reading if that's what you're looking. for but it is a fun story with enough intrigue to make it interesting.

Not exactly a romance, per se.

More of an existential examination of relationships through past lives than a feel good romance story. And a but creepy.
