Historia
After writing a satirical novel that The New York Times calls classist, Anna is shunned by the literary establishment and, in her hurt, radicalized by the philosophy of Ayn Rand. Determined to follow Rand’s theory of rational selfishness, Anna alienates herself from the scene and eventually her friends and family. Finally, in true Randian style, she abandons everyone for the boundless horizons of Los Angeles, hoping to make a TV show about her beloved muse.

Satire is difficult
Revisado: 08-02-24
When you get it satire is incredibly amusing, and insightful.
For me the satire wasn’t accessible. Maybe if you lived in New York and were surrounded by people like this it would be amusing.
For me, you might as well be satirizing citizens of mars.
It is an inside joke

Hard at times
Revisado: 11-23-23
I struggled with the narrative of “ I, I, I” the food issues and binging made me feel uncomfortable.
At the same time, I feel that was the author’s goal.
It was very well done. Expect to feel uncomfortable. At the end worth it.

The real deal
Revisado: 11-21-22
Paulina writes wonderfully, narrates well, and has put together a great collection of essays based upon her experiences, and what she believes she has learnt over those years.
It is worth it simply to learn about someone we have all probably made assumptions about. I knew who she was but just as a name on a list of supermodels. I didn't even know she was married to Ric Ocasek until things went bad and made the news.
None of that really matters. The book stands on its own, as thoughtful, well written, and interesting.

Raised in the Los Angeles hinterlands by a hippie mom, Alex dropped out of school early and into a world of shady drug-dealer boyfriends, dead-end jobs, and much, much worse. In fact, by age twenty, she is the sole survivor of a horrific, unsolved multiple homicide. Some might say she’s thrown her life away. But at her hospital bed, Alex is offered a second chance: to attend one of the world’s most prestigious universities on a full ride. What’s the catch, and why her?

A step beyond
Revisado: 10-25-19
I have enjoyed Leigh's books before hand, but I enjoyed them as a generic fantasy, well executed but that was it.
The Ninth house was completely different. It was steps above. Showing a mastery of character development, and narative

A converstation with a worldy intelligent friend
Revisado: 01-14-18
What made the experience of listening to We're Going to Need More Wine the most enjoyable?
It was like having a conversation with a (talkative) intelligent worldly friend.
Have you listened to any of Gabrielle Union’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
have not listened before
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
It was all very moving
Any additional comments?
It took a little while to adjust to the narrative style. The style was completely fitting for the book, but was not what you normally get.

Average made poor by the production
Revisado: 01-11-11
It is hard to truly judge the book given that the narration was so poor. The only break from an unrelentingly flat delivery was the occasional misplaced emphasis, and mispronounciation.
The real shame is that the narrator was clear and understandable. Something must have gone badly wrong in production
