Amazing
Revisado: 08-08-23
Compulsory reading for anyone wanting as much insight into the world and history of LOTR as possible.
Having an insight into the evolution of certain concepts as well as abandoned storylines and having it clearly explained by Christopher Tolkien is just amazing.

Historia
A vast canvas of camps, prisons, transit centres and secret police, of informers and spies and interrogators but also of everyday heroism, The Gulag Archipelago is Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn's grand masterwork. Based on the testimony of some 200 survivors, and on the recollection of Solzhenitsyn's own 11 years in labour camps and exile, it chronicles the story of those at the heart of the Soviet Union who opposed Stalin, and for whom the key to survival lay not in hope but in despair.

Required reading
Revisado: 05-23-23
This book should be required reading as part of anyone's education or journey of self improvement. Simple as that. The themes and the questions brought up here should be contemplated by everyone. It is impossible to read it and not be somehow changed by it. One of the most important books you'll ever read.

The complete unabridged audiobook of J.R.R Tolkien's The Silmarillion. The Silmarillion is an account of the Elder Days, of the First Age of Tolkien’s world. It is the ancient drama to which the characters in The Lord of the Rings look back, and in whose events some of them such as Elrond and Galadriel took part.

One for the Tolkein fans wanting more
Revisado: 03-14-23
This is a great book, and a great performance. It is a compendium of the history of middle earth focusing on the build up to the war of the ring, spanning many thousands of years from the creation of the world to the third age.
For anyone wanting to know more about Tolkein s world and it's history, this is amazing. For the more casual this might be too much. Don't expect a flowing storyline as per Lord of The Rings. This is a mixture of shorter stories, given is roughly chronological order. Some are amazing. Some are more like historical notes covering famous kings and their heirs. It certainly fleshes out to a much greater degree the world, it's history and it's inhabitants.
If this sounds like something that interests you, then I highly recommend it.

Historia
The Ape That Understood the Universe is the story of the strangest animal in the world: the human animal. It opens with a question: How would an alien scientist view our species? What would it make of our sex differences, our sexual behavior, our child-rearing patterns, our moral codes, our religions, our languages, and science? The book tackles these issues by drawing on ideas from two major schools of thought: evolutionary psychology and cultural evolutionary theory.

Fascinating read
Revisado: 02-16-23
An interesting and fascinating book. Worth your time. Once you get the gist of the argument, it can be sometimes easy to infer where the author is going, but he still manages to surprise you on a regular basis. there were some arguments I did not agree with, but these were addressed later in the book. Some patience required 😄
I also like the delivery by the narrator.
Recommended.

The company of the Ring is torn asunder. Frodo and Sam continue their journey alone down the great River Anduin - alone, that is, save for the mysterious creeping figure that follows wherever they go. This continues the classic tale begun in The Fellowship of the Ring, which reaches its awesome climax in The Return of the King.

Educational
Revisado: 05-28-22
I enjoyed this overall.
The language is sometimes overly flowery and drawn out. I struggled to read the book but the audio book was more manageable.
The author tries to formalize a number of good and constructive ideas into a system she calls the Thinking Environment. There are some good lessons to be had and I personally found myself implementing some of it in my own meetings in a less formal fashion.
Often the author goes way overboard in my opinion in terms of the merits of this system. It's almost framed as the cure to all ills. Personally speaking I feel this detracts from something that taken with a bit more realism is clearly a good and beneficial approach in a variety of situations.
I found myself struggling to persist through some sections of the book but I persisted as there are good lessons to be learned. I'm happy I did. But it didn't need to be so tedious.

Revisado: 05-28-22
I really enjoyed this. Fan of the movies (main trilogy, not so much the Hobbit trilogy) but had never read the books.
Andy Serkis' performance was amazing. It had everything. Great narration. Varied voice overs. Song. Action.
The book itself is simpler than the main Lord of the Rings trilogy. But it was a joy nonetheless.
