In Solid Ivory, a carefully crafted mosaic of memories, portraits, and reflections, the Academy Award-winning filmmaker James Ivory, a partner in the legendary Merchant Ivory Productions and the director of A Room with a View, Howards End, Maurice, and The Remains of the Day, tells stories from his remarkable life and career as one of the most influential directors of his time. At times, he touches on his love affairs, looking back coolly and with unexpected frankness.

I was disappointed in this book. I thought it would be more interesting but it was a bit boring. His narration didn’t help.

Weak plot
Revisado: 05-08-23
This was the weakest plot in the series thus far (or maybe they’re just wearing thin). Beatrice isn’t a very likable character and the romantic development seems contrived. I’d not recommend this book.

Jory is annoying
Revisado: 04-16-23
Jory is one of the most annoying characters ever created by an author. I absolutely found his behavior exasperating and maddening. He puts himself at unnecessary risk as well as those around him. This may provide drama for the author, but why anyone would be willing to put up with his actions is beyond comprehension. It's also very implausible to believe that a hot straight muscular handsome cop would fall for this guy. I finished the book but could NOT recommend. The plot is downright fiction, fiction, fiction and the author is now on my banned list.

A bit slow
Revisado: 04-16-23
The author now seems to specialize in characters with disabilities. Ethan has hearing issues and thus causes him difficulties in every day life. That’s certainly believable and most unfortunate but it didn’t make me more interested in the story. In fact the opposite. I purchase books for amusement and light enjoyment and the hearing disability was too sad for me. I also thought the plot stretched plausibility a bit too far. I wouldn’t recommend.

An enjoyable experience
Revisado: 04-11-23
Purchased the audio book and it was a pleasant book to listen to during my gym workouts. I appreciated that this narrative avoided the common trap authors so typically use in romance books— a set up where one lead character sees the other MC do something and jumps to wrong conclusion and there’s no discussion. Such a trite way to create conflict.
In this novel the author created difficulties that arise from past experiences that create the tension. I found the plot well thought through and as I listened roughly an hour each day during my gym routine I realized I was getting to understand each character individually and collectively. Definitely would recommend reading or listening.

Historia
Ex-military mountain man Griffin Barrett likes his solitude. It keeps him from falling back into old habits. Bad habits. He’s fought too hard for his sobriety to lose control now. However, his gig as a wildlife guide presents a new kind of temptation in super-hot supermodel River Vale. Nothing the Alaskan wilderness has to offer has ever called to Griffin so badly. That can only lead to trouble....

Unsatisfying
Revisado: 02-05-23
This tale of a blue haired male runway model paired with an Alaskan mountain man was woefully unconvincing. I persisted in finishing the book even as it lacked luster. Both characters have suffered mental anguish and the book isn’t cheerful nor light. In fact it’s rather sad and depressing. I plan to avoid this author in future.

Historia
Rupert is a quiet, thoughtful business man and, sadly, a total wimp. As his life has reminded him on an almost daily basis since, this isn’t the most brilliant idea he’s ever had. And that was before Callum showed up. Callum figures he can push through the rest of the summer, never expecting two kids, a host of friends, and his growing feelings for Rupert to derail everything he has ever believed about what he wanted, and what he could have.

Subpar
Revisado: 10-09-22
If fantasy is what you’re looking for you might enjoy this incredulously ridiculous romantic romp where a pro hockey team is stacked with beefy gay men and managed by an English gay Earl who is about as perfect as one can be.
For me the premises within the plot were so over the top as to lack plausibility. I accept that romantic books generally employ a great deal of imagination but I prefer some realism along with the dreams of a Prince Charming.
The main characters are very likable and I appreciate their ability and willingness to talk through issues (and avoid the miscommunication and misunderstandings long a cliche with many romantic novels) yet as I turned pages I found one more astonishing and unbelievable action after another until I realized that the author was out of control and lived in some universe unknown to this world. I stopped about two thirds into the book as I could take no more of the make believe plot.

I’m a man with too many secrets, so the last thing I need is a new roommate with a sexy smile and blue eyes that see right through me. Eight years ago, Roderick left town after high school. We’re not friends. I owe him nothing. But back then, I let one of my secrets slip, and he’s the only one who noticed. Part of me knows I should run far, far away. But the other part wants him to come upstairs and spend the night. But if I let him in, I could lose everything.

A compelling tale
Revisado: 09-18-22
An enjoyable story of a slow romance between two nice guys. Both of the characters were likable and realistic. There were complications along he way as there is in actual life but what I appreciated about the story is there were no great misunderstanding that lead to false drama. These men had to overcome some issues from their separate pasts, sometimes successfully and others not. It is one of the best books I’ve listened to in awhile.

So slow and painfully dull
Revisado: 08-14-22
Succinctly tedious and boring. The main character is suffering from war afflicted emotional scars and this makes the story sad and despairing. I got about 40% Inyo and realized I was suffering as much as the plot. I read for entertainment and enlightenment and I found both severely lacking in this displeasing parable.
