Historia
Tooly Zylberberg, the American owner of an isolated bookshop in the Welsh countryside, conducts a life full of reading, but with few human beings. Books are safer than people, who might ask awkward questions about her life. She prefers never to mention the strange events of her youth, which mystify and worry her still. Taken from home as a girl, Tooly found herself spirited away by a group of seductive outsiders, implicated in capers from Asia to Europe to the United States. But who were her abductors? Why did they take her? What did they really want?

slow and boring
Revisado: 10-21-24
I struggle to not finish a story, but I wish I would have stopped after the first child chapters.

Historia
Drawing on dozens of intimate audio interviews with families from all across the country, award-winning psychologist and writer Andrew Solomon redefines what it means to be an “ideal family” in America today. Solomon observes that America, led in large part by the women’s, civil rights, and gay rights movements, has undergone a radical social shift in the last few decades. Although the structure of family has changed, economic and legal structures lag behind and need to adapt to accommodate this explosive new reality.

Family structure, not values
Revisado: 02-04-19
This book is not about new family values, but the different kinds of structures found in America. Most of the focus is on finding the families wi seem to be succeeding, with very little on those that have failed and why. There is little to no scientific or historical data to back what is being stated in the book. Although an interesting topic, I felt as if the author is trying to only show the success of these family structures for the purpose of support in his beliefs... but only historical data will be able to validate what he is stating.

Historia
Brigham Young was a rough-hewn craftsman from New York whose impoverished and obscure life was electrified by the Mormon faith. He trudged around the United States and England to gain converts for Mormonism, spoke in spiritual tongues, married more than 50 women, and eventually transformed a barren desert into his vision of the Kingdom of God. While previous accounts of his life have been distorted by hagiography or polemical exposé, John Turner provides a fully realized portrait of a colossal figure in American religion, politics, and westward expansion.

Did not like at all.
Revisado: 12-04-18
Book is slow and hard to catch your attention. The author's opinion is all over the book without just stating facts, references are questionable. It was difficult to trust the authors interpretation and sources.

Historia
In 1820, a young farm boy in search of truth has a vision of God the Father and Jesus Christ. Three years later, an angel guides him to an ancient record buried in a hill near his home. With God’s help, he translates the record and organizes the Savior’s church in the latter days. Soon others join him, accepting the invitation to become Saints through the Atonement of Jesus Christ. But opposition and violence follow those who defy old traditions to embrace restored truths.

I loved the openness and details of the history of The church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.
