Well written and performed, though I anticipated the climax. It’s sweet that she forgave him even though he seems to be a user.

The podcaster, demonstrating a supreme lack of critical thinking, claims that (Roman Empire lol??) EU Prime Commissioner Ursula von der Leyen’s advocation of critical thinking, or “prebunking” when dealing with online conspiracy theories is going to help bring about totalitarianism, Antichrist, the Apocalypse, etc.
Which is bad.
Even though it’s good, because Jesus will return and people who have been “saved” have nothing to worry about presumably.
Was doing research on the history of the EU and Brexit, and stumbled across this gem of laughable nonsense.
Clearly Audible doesn’t have a problem with hosting “truth” and “free speech,” so it’s not part of the reptilian mole people agenda?

Great resource, but narration was a bit quiet, and some material at the beginning seems copied from the last book, and I would have liked to hear more about the Paris Commune, as well as the French Empire.
Nonetheless, this is wonderful interweaving of the history of Paris’ art, politics, science, legal and military. We see how France helps shapes the modern world with the Electric Palace, with its electric cars and cinema, and the pioneering yet I’ll-fated Panama venture. Tender amores are mixed with social struggles, and international challenges. The Dreyfus Affair is here treated with much detail of the personalities involved, impassioned speeches and their juicy intrigues. It unfortunately serves as a foreshadowing of the antisemitic crimes of the 20th century, as well as the social upheavals and polarized politics of our own time.

But this should have the other authors listed, not just Hawking. He would have wished this, I’m sure.

But definitely worth a second listen if one is interested in the technical details of American space flight in the 1970’s. A fascinating look at one of the unfortunately more obscure space programs.
So far as I have listened, this is also the best Audible title at giving real insight into the weightless life and the logistics of long term space habitation.
There are occasional snatches of humor to lighten the mood, but this is not recommended listening for those who get bored by technical language.

Fun, short listens of humanity’s wackiest ideas, and at a time when sanity seems in short supply on the Internet. You girls rock!

Be warned that this book is practically a transcript of lectures given by Feynman, and that some of the material is of the cuff, repetitive and deals in dated controversies with little context given. It comes across, therefore, as a badly composed potboiler of a book.
Otherwise, it is a joy to hear how a great scientist engages the public and issues of his time. He makes light of the absurdities of our supposedly scientific age, i.e: faith healers, advertising, special interest groups, political religions, etc. He dared to be neutral in the Cold War, while condemning the Soviets’ treatment of scientists. He also hilariously mocks the American space program, wondering why so many -(to him)- obvious errors creep into the hardware. We begin to see the man who would challenge NASA in the wake of the Challenger disaster.
If you are looking for audiobooks that better represent Feynman, there are several available that are included with Audible Plus, including the famous “Surely, You’re Joking.” Unfortunately, the equally famous Feynman Lectures on Physics are not included.
I hope that Audible one day remedies this.

Fine grade school Introduction to the 2010 Haitian Earthquake and its immediate aftermath

A brief narrative of the natural disaster and structural poverty that crippled Haiti in 2010, told from several points of view. Includes victims’ perspective, UN response, as well as cameos from political leaders of the time.

The prose was fair enough, and the narrator gave the victims a certain pathos, but he kept pausing to turn the page and he needlessly interrupted the story to read the description of images that we can’t see.

The book offers reading material towards the end, which will appreciated by those who want to research further.

I think I learned something today! This clip is a nicely bite-sized story that can be fit into a grade school lesson on either Native American history, the Second World War, or the concept of ciphering.
The performances are a little cheesy, but there is, of course no way to make war depictions realistic without being too mature for young students.
