Historia
The “gripping” (The Washington Post) story of the most famous regiment in American history: the Rough Riders, a motley group of soldiers led by Theodore Roosevelt, whose daring exploits marked the beginning of American imperialism in the 20th century. Both a portrait of these men, few of whom were traditional soldiers, and of the Spanish-American War itself, The Crowded Hour dives deep into the daily lives and struggles of Roosevelt and his regiment. Using diaries, letters, and memoirs, Risen illuminates an influential moment in American history.

Fiction or truth
Revisado: 06-14-19
We all have heard of the Rough Riders. It made TR and the America of the 20th Century. Both became larger than life. The author tells a great story, but where does the truth lie, somewhere between. Enjoyable but raiser more questions than answers. Maybe that is whats interesting and worth a read..

Historia
Rick Atkinson recounts the first 21 months of America’s violent war for independence. From the battles at Lexington and Concord in spring 1775 to those at Trenton and Princeton in winter 1777, American militiamen and then the ragged Continental Army take on the world’s most formidable fighting force. Full of riveting details and untold stories, The British Are Coming is a tale of heroes and knaves, of sacrifice and blunder, of redemption and profound suffering. Rick Atkinson has given stirring new life to the first act of our country’s creation drama.

Something new
Revisado: 06-04-19
If you think you know something of the first years of the American Revolution, this book will add to that knowledge. If you know nothing, this is a great beginning. I have read his history of the American Army in World War II and this is just as good. A great story teller and worth the listen.

More mistakes and than true facts
Revisado: 12-07-09
I purchase this book for the idea of the title. Although the theme was great, I got really annoyed with the misquotes that the author had throughout the lecture. He has to check his facts and how he used them. Because of this problem, it is not the worth the time to listen to it.

Historia
As professional 21st-century historians cede the literary field to the popular amateur, history and its meanings become muddled - especially in the punditocracy championed by modern media. Copious amounts of cherry-picked facts and manufactured heroes are used to create a narrative rather than give any insight into past events. MacMillan offers an antidote to this by providing the necessary tools to help interpret history in constructive ways.

A New Approach to the Study of History
Revisado: 12-07-09
Although I do not completely agree with author's thesis on the use of history by public personalities, it made me think about the subject of history and its uses to formulate public opinion and policies. Sometimes, it is used for positive formulations, but many times, it used to set policies that are not true to the "real history" of the subject. It more than worth the time to listen to it. I am sure that there will more questions than there are answer to the subject. But is that not the job of an historian in the long run.

This course examines the life of Benjamin Franklin and his influence on both American and world history. He remains the model of the American thinker - a man who was interested in nearly everything, and who pursued those interests with an admirable and contagious passion. To study Franklin's life is to learn not only the history of a single man, but to understand some of the most monumental changes in all of human history.

Revisado: 12-07-09
This book is a very good start on the life and time of Franklin; however, the listener should also read The First American by Prof. Brands.
