The opening of the book is a painfully stereotypical depiction of wealthy conservative family dynamics. I was embarrassed to read the fake dialog. Then came Vietnam. I served in Vietnam as a combat infantryman, and I later served as a civilian with the US Embassy and lived in Saigon. I was an active part of the evacuation. None of the early story action or descriptions is plausible. I could not bring myself to read past the protagonist's arrival at an evacuation hospital, so maybe things even out, but the part I read is, simply, BS. Greatly disappointed.

I enjoyed this audio book very much. While I would not presume to critique Dickens, I will give highest praise to the reading.
