Space! Adventure! ….not so much, meh

Fun premise, but not a polished story. I want to like it.

We start right in with some action, then slow right down and get bogged down in hesitant revelation of a large story arc.
For a "pilot" with experience in a jet, the main character seems to lack experience of flight. and to diagnose a completely unknown engine system while in space, stretches the suspension of disbelief.
As for the ship, you can say super advanced several times but that doesn't make me believe it. Analog screens, cameras and fuel lines don't instill a sense of wonder.
I'm sorry, but this book needs to go back for a few revisions.

Aliens ripped a hole above Earth, arriving with a massive space station. I sorta figured we'd be enslaved to fight in their wars or exterminated for our resources. Nope. The hip-high Iglax were merchants with ugly squished faces and thick blue fur. While they weren't much to look at, they sure did have some wonderous technology.

I never write reviews before finishing a book, but this one time I have to share my excitement. I'm absolutely hooked. I place this with Expeditionary Force, and bobiverse. very well written, well paced, funny, realistic, relatable, and swearing! Sweet baby Jesus, normal human language. Thank the fucking stars for a return to normal human language with proper use of intense words for intense situations and emotions. brilliant.

This book is a wonderful dive into the technical challenges and accomplishments of the vast f-35 team. I highly recommend it for all lovers of flight. This book is right up there with Ben Riche's My Time at Lockheed.

Just what the Doctor ordered. This IS the sci-fi you're looking for. I can't sing the praises of this series loudly enough to do it justice. I hope for many many more instalments. Right up there with the Expedition series, the Bobiverse and Old Man's Ear. Just plain fun Sci-fi. 11/10.
