Historia
Ricky Desmond has been through this all before. If he could just get through to his mother, he could convince her that he doesn't belong at Brookline. From the man who thinks he can fly to the woman who killed her husband, the other patients are nothing like him; all he did was lose his temper just a little bit, just the once. But when Ricky is selected by the sinister Warden Crawford for a very special program - a program that the warden claims will not cure him but perfect him - Ricky realizes that he may not be able to wait for his mom a second longer.

Holy Celtic gods and witchlings!
Revisado: 04-23-20
This was amazing. Getting started it was a bit slow, but by about 15 chapters in I was completely hooked. There were so many amazing elements to the story, the Celtic mythology was woven in well, and not overwhelming for someone like me with no prior knowledge of the Celtic gods. I appreciated the discussions and realistic portrayal of mental health issues and the representation shown in the characters. The inclusion of POC and LGBTQ+ characters was not overdone, or stereotypical. Sometimes representation in fiction can feel forced, or like it's only being done to try and be relevant. But E. Latimer does a great job at making the characters feel authentic. It made sense for the story but was also not overdone. I also like that romance is light, but meaningful and fitting to the story. But by far the best part was all the witchy details. Katharine Lee McEwan did an amazing reading which really helped make the story that much better. I will say that the chapters are from the POV of five different characters, it didn't bother me, but I know some people aren't partial too it. Overall a definite 5* for me!

Historia
Called “the best of science writing” (Edward O. Wilson) and named a best book by Popular Science, a dive into the secret lives of whales, from their four-legged past to their perilous present. Whales are among the largest, most intelligent, deepest diving species to have ever lived on our planet. They evolved from land-roaming, dog-size creatures into animals that move like fish, breathe like us, can grow to 300,000 pounds, live 200 years, and travel entire ocean basins. Whales fill us with terror, awe, and affection - yet there is still so much we don't know about them.

Not really what I was expecting...
Revisado: 01-09-19
Whales are fascinating creatures, and with this book I was hoping to learn more about them. But this book is missing so much information. The author barely touches on the phenomenon of whale song, their family and pod structure, their migrating habits or really much information about LIVING whales. The book is mostly about prehistoric species of whales, bone hunting, the science of fossils and the evolution of whales. It's not a bad book, but it's not really want I wanted. The author reads the book and I had to speed his voice up because he speaks so slowly it drones on and on. Overall, if you want to learn about modern whales skip this, if you want to learn about fossils and evolution, give it a go.

Outstanding!!
Revisado: 02-16-18
Holly Black has done it again! Or should I say, done it even better. The Cruel Price is a deliciously, fantastically wicked story about power, deceit and corruption. The story is full of twists and turns, with richly described scenery and characters, painting a vivid land of fairy characters. The main character is cunning, brave and ruthless in her quest to get what she wants, despite being one of the few mortals in the realm. This is Holly Black’s best work to date.

Her mother ships her off to Shadow Falls - a camp for troubled teens, and within hours of arriving, it becomes painfully clear that her fellow campers aren’t just "troubled". Here at Shadow Falls, vampires, werewolves, shapshifters, witches and fairies train side by side - learning to harness their powers, control their magic, and live in the normal world. Kylie’s never felt normal, but surely she doesn’t belong here with a bunch of paranormal freaks either. Or does she?
