Historia
Ryland Grace is the sole survivor on a desperate, last-chance mission - and if he fails, humanity and the Earth itself will perish. Except that right now, he doesn't know that. He can't even remember his own name, let alone the nature of his assignment or how to complete it. All he knows is that he's been asleep for a very, very long time. And he's just been awakened to find himself millions of miles from home, with nothing but two corpses for company.

Audiobook Masterpiece
Revisado: 03-30-22
This he is one of the best audio books I have ever listened to! The plot was constructed so believably, and while I couldn't necessarily understand all the science taking place within the pages, the author did a phenomenal job of putting it into layman's terms. The book was exciting!
on top of an excellent piece of literature, the narration for this audiobook is absolutely unbeatable. The sound effects, the tone and mood given to dialogue... just... wow.
This was worth every minute, and part of me hopes that I forget a great deal about this book so that I can enjoy it in the same way a decade from now. 🙌

Bizarre and thought provoking SciFi.

I really enjoyed this audiobook! I finished it in 2 days while doing housework and yard work. I was actually more productive because I didn't want to turn the book off. If anybody enjoys scenarios that are Black Mirroresque, I am guessing that this take on future tech would appeal. I will definitely be reading book 2.

Historia
The folks in Mike Erikson's small New England town would say he's just your average, everyday guy. And that's exactly how Mike likes it. Sure, the life he's chosen isn't much of a challenge to someone with his unique gifts, but he's content with his quiet and peaceful existence. That is, until an old friend presents him with an irresistible mystery, one that Mike is uniquely qualified to solve.

Haunting, Tragic, and Beautifully Done

This book stunned me in how excellent it turned out to be. It took me 3 days to listen to all 18 hours because I could not turn it off- I just kept looking for chores around the house to do that would allow me to keep listening. The characters were well developed and allowed me to both love and hate them for so many reasons.
The transitions back and forth between the past (WWII Poland, primarily) and present (NH present day) were seamless and the human emotion transferred from one scene to the next in a visceral way. The accounts of the treatment of Jewish people were told both by an SS officer/ war criminal and a victim which gave interesting, and haunting, perspective of the mindsets of participants in the heinous acts taking place in Europe at that time.
Even if you're not a WWII buff or a regular connoisseur of historical fiction, there is still plenty of material here for you to resonate with. There is a story within the story that allegories human consciousness and behavior beautifully. The relationships interweave in surprising and intriguing ways, and as always, Jodi Picoult has produced an ending which will have you rethinking everything you've read... or perhaps heard (thanks to Audible).

I was surprised at how much I enjoyed the multiple perspectives offered by the author. I was hooked after just a few chapters and now I can't wait to find out where the story will go in the next book.
I had to listen to the book on 1.25 speed though, as I found the reader to sound a tad breathy and overly melodramatic. It actually sounded more natural with the increased speed.
