Historia
A man. His ex-girlfriend's cat. A sadistic game show unlike anything in the universe: a dungeon crawl where survival depends on killing your prey in the most entertaining way possible. In a flash, every human-erected construction on Earth - from Buckingham Palace to the tiniest of sheds - collapses in a heap, sinking into the ground. The buildings and all the people inside have all been atomized and transformed into the dungeon: an 18-level labyrinth filled with traps, monsters, and loot.

donut is not enjoyable
Revisado: 04-11-25
donut is not enjoyable. Internet reviews say that by book 5 you start getting some hints that she's better. I'm not buying 6 books to find out she might eventually be less annoying.
also the audio mixing is not great, several of the characters are considerably quieter than the others, making it so that I literally have to have my hand on the volume all the time in order to hear what the AI is saying without blowing my ears out when Carl starts talking.

Should have been 12.5
Revisado: 03-05-25
This is just a bare collection of short stories. It's a really weak entry and incredibly short to boot. If the author wanted to release a series of vignettes, they should've added 50-75% more to bring it up to a reasonable lengthnbefore doing so. Could've added a bunch of side stories or dives into other characters that add to the universe. Instead, we get what is the shortest entry in the series by FAR (barely half the length of the next shortest) at full price that ends with an awful cliffhanger.

I've read better...
Revisado: 09-30-24
To start with the positives, the narration was really well done. The characters are all distinctly voiced, and it's very easy to keep up with the story as it goes along. The only bad part to it is that there is a race of people for whom the chosen accent is very difficult to parse, and it sounds like a stretch every time.
However, the story is less good... I simply couldn't get over the main character's several flaws and how the story simply never punished her for them. She is mean, she's vindictive, she treats her friends poorly, and makes bad decisions, and nothing really that bad ever happens to her for any of those. All of them are just opportunities for her to get stronger.
The friend character I think is the worst part of this, because I don't think the author knows what they want him to be. He's clearly just there to give the main character someone to talk to, because nothing that he does matters. For someone that the main character describes as being their best friend, he basically never comes across her mind in any way other than as an object.

Power scaling seems off
Revisado: 05-26-24
First off, the performance is great. The narration is A+ and the voicing of the "corrupted" parts of the book makes it clear what's going on, a real improvement from the early parts of the series.
However, personally I don't like that Jason just has everything come easy to him. Like, I get that that was the whole thing with Rob, that Jason was just better than him at everything but he was nice so they stayed friends. That was a great setup for introducing Rob's character and why he acted the way he does.
If Jason is going to be an actual character like this in the story though, it really diminishes Rob's character. We have followed him through four books as he struggles and tries to get people to work with him, tries to help them improve, etc meanwhile Jason just rockets past him in a world without any of the benefits that Rob has.
The first Jason side story I thought was setting up Rob to come back and see that Jason was finally not as good at something as he was, but it looks like... nope this is something Jason is just naturally awesome at as well. But somehow it's even worse, because Rob is at least in a place where he should be getting better faster, but Jason just cheat codes it or whatever.

Historia
Arthur Leywin may have survived the Relictombs, but he immediately finds himself embroiled in something far more complex and dangerous: Alacryan politics. Accused of crimes he didn’t commit, Arthur is forced to defend himself without drawing the attention of his most powerful enemies. He quickly discovers that the best place to hide may be in plain sight as he continues his quest for the power to control Fate itself. It is a race against time, however, as the greatest threat of the war so far closes in on Arthur’s loved ones in Dicathen.

TurtleMe lost the plot three books ago
Revisado: 07-25-23
The latest addition to the series just proves that the author really has no idea where he's going. Ever since he decided to depower the main character, all of the uniqueness of the original books is gone. The last three books have all just been repurposing references from other series in the genre and shoehorning in real life memes. I kind of wish that he had just stuck with the magic plot, and then finished while he still had good ideas.

That's the only good thing about it though. A bunch of unimportant side stories about side characters wherein several of them make decisions completely at odds with their previous characterization.

Im an idiot for buying the whole series in advance
Revisado: 06-18-23
This book literally opens with the prime sin of progression fantasy of resetting the main character's progression.
if I wanted to read a story about a completely unpowered person with a shitty sardonic ghost companion that hates him, I would just read Cradle all over again. I can't believe turtleme added a Dross-copy that is somehow even shittier than Dross.
I wish I could get my money back for this book.

YA Progression Fantasy to the extreme
Revisado: 03-12-23
it's not bad YA, there's lots to like here, but it's very YA. The basin character makes several of the dumbest decisions in the universe, but gets rewarded for them. There are very few consequences for the lead, in any real sense.
The performance could use some work though. The narrator is not great at doing female voices, to the extent that I would regularly have to go back and re-listen to female characters lines multiple times in order to figure out what they said (and that's leaving off that the voices themselves were grating to begin with).
Overall, it's a good story, and if audiobook is the way you consume books, then it's worth it. I hope they improve in future books in the series.
