Excellent information with only one major error.
Revisado: 02-15-24
After hearing the author claim that atoms have the same number of protons as neutrons and that the hydrogen atom has 1 proton and 1 neutron, I was very dubious about the usefulness of this book. (The most common isotope of hydrogen has 1 proton and no neutrons, uranium 238 has 92 protons and 146 neutrons, most atoms do not have the same number of protons and neutrons.) But after this error, the book was excellent! It was full of good information and the presentation was excellent. I am on the second listening and I have purchased the book (as a paperback) to have a written copy of the information. The only thing I would add is a pdf file to augment the information.

excellent information & resources
Revisado: 01-22-24
The book was very current. thorough, and informative with many references. I enjoyed the book very much. An accompanying pdf file with auxiliary information would be helpful. I have listened to this book twice so far and have purchased a paperback copy to help with comprehension. The only concern I had was info towards the end of chapter 7 on quantum communication where it was stated that this could be instantaneous. This goes against everything else I have ever read. While the entanglement proceeds instantaneously, no information can be transmitted faster than the speed of light. Everything I have read on entanglement emphasizes this. (The section I am referring to is on pages 243 & 244 in the print edition or the last 4 minutes of chapter 7 (e.g. Spaceships talking to earth) in the audio edition.

Contained very good data but much of it was dated. Very obviously from the 20th century.

Historia
Written by award-winning science writer John Emsley, this informative and highly enjoyable book explains the what, the why and the wherefore of the elements. Arranged alphabetically, from Actinium to Zirconium, it is a complete guide to all the elements that are currently known, with more extensive coverage of those we encounter in our everyday life. The entry on each element reveals where it came from, what role it may have in the human body, the foods that contain it, how it was discovered, its role in human health, the uses and misuses to which it is put, and its environmental role.

Max Tegmark leads us on an astonishing journey through past, present and future, and through the physics, astronomy, and mathematics that are the foundation of his work, most particularly his hypothesis that our physical reality is a mathematical structure and his theory of the ultimate multiverse. In a dazzling combination of both popular and groundbreaking science, he not only helps us grasp his often mind-boggling theories, but he also shares with us some of the often surprising triumphs and disappointments that have shaped his life as a scientist.

Historia
Is time travel possible? What does it mean to say the universe is fine-tuned? Could our universe be fake? Or, if it is real, is it part of a multiverse? In an attempt to solve such mysteries, leading experts attempt to break the world down to its smallest particles and build it back up - to understand the universe by understanding the atom. In this compelling audio course, Dr. Robert Lawrence Kuhn, creator and host of the PBS series Closer to Truth, examines the riddles of the universe with 13 luminaries in physics, cosmology, astronomy, philosophy, mathematics, and chemistry.

Historia
In this absorbing and frequently contentious book, Roger Penrose puts forward his view that there are some facets of human thinking that can never be emulated by a machine. The book's central concern is what philosophers call the "mind-body problem". Penrose examines what physics and mathematics can tell us about how the mind works, what they can't, and what we need to know to understand the physical processes of consciousness.
