Historia
Something new entered our world in November 2022—the first general purpose AI that could pass for a human and do the kinds of creative, innovative work that only humans could do previously. Wharton professor Ethan Mollick immediately understood what ChatGPT meant: after millions of years on our own, humans had developed a kind of co-intelligence that could augment, or even replace, human thinking. Through his writing, speaking, and teaching, Mollick has become one of the most prominent and provocative explainers of AI.

AI for beginners (all of us)
Revisado: 08-10-24
I found this interesting and useful for understanding AI and how I might use it. I fear that AI will change/improve so fast that this may be dated in a year or two.

Another "How I Was Successful" book
Revisado: 03-19-24
Patrick Bet-David has read all the best business books. And he has been very successful in business. There is nothing new here except to hear how he applied what he had learned. Entrepreneurs and business leaders are advised to go back to the source materials, those good business books from Jim Collins, Patrick Lencioni, Dale Carnegie, Peter Drucker, Gino Wickman, et. al.

Good but not great
Revisado: 03-19-24
This is the third book in this series and I like the series. But this book had a serious hole in the plot. Details count, when the story has twists and turns, And looking for the clues is part of the fun. This had an inexplicable hole in the plot which detracted from the action.

Historia
When Elon Musk was a kid in South Africa, he was regularly beaten by bullies. One day a group pushed him down some concrete steps and kicked him until his face was a swollen ball of flesh. He was in the hospital for a week. But the physical scars were minor compared to the emotional ones inflicted by his father, an engineer, rogue, and charismatic fantasist.

Revisado: 11-10-23
Walter Isaacson has outdone himself. This could not be more timely. Elon Musk is not only the wealthiest person in history, he is possibly the most influential person currently on this planet. Until now, no one has had this complete of a picture and understanding of this complex, controversial individual.

Historia
When it comes to climate change, the media, politicians, and other prominent voices have declared that "the science is settled." In reality, the long game of telephone from research to reports to the popular media is corrupted by misunderstanding and misinformation. Core questions - about the way the climate is responding to our influence, and what the impacts will be - remain largely unanswered. The climate is changing, but the why and how aren't as clear as you've probably been led to believe.

Revisado: 06-10-23
Excellent reading for everyone, regardless of your opinions on climate change. Koonin digs into the details of ALL the climate reports, by all the government and non-government agencies, including the boring appendices, to find the confirmations and the contradictions between the headlines and the actual data.

Long On Action and Holes in the Plot
Revisado: 04-11-23
Starting with the good stuff: Great reading performance, capturing the different voices. This is a long chase and action book with several very hard to believe portions of the plot. The Netflix movie version is much better because it avoids the most absurd plot points. By starting with the first "Gray Man" book, I was hoping to find a series I could get into. Like a James Bond or Jack Reacher. But I will pass on this series and look elsewhere.

Historia
Mystery and horror. Poe, who remains one of the most iconic of American writers, died under haunting circumstances that reflect the two literary genres he took to new heights. Over the years, there has been a staggering amount of speculation about the cause of death, from rabies and syphilis to suicide, alcoholism, and even murder. But many of these theories are formed on the basis of the caricature we have come to associate with Poe: the gloomy-eyed grandfather of Goth, hunched over a writing desk with a raven perched on one shoulder, drunkenly scribbling his chilling masterpieces.

Historia
Nearly a decade ago, iconic magician Violet Volk performed her greatest trick yet: vanishing mid-act. Though she hasn’t been seen since, her hold on the public imagination is stronger than ever. While Violet sought out the spotlight, her sister Sasha always had to be the responsible one, taking over their mother’s hair salon and building a quiet life for her beloved daughter, Quinn. But Sasha can never seem to escape her sister’s orbit or her memories of their unresolved, tumultuous relationship.

Historia
Since the days of the dot-com bubble in the late 1990s, no industry has made a greater impact on the world than Silicon Valley. And few individuals have done more to shape Silicon Valley than Peter Thiel. The billionaire venture capitalist and entrepreneur has been a behind-the-scenes operator influencing countless aspects of our contemporary way of life, from the technologies we use every day to the delicate power balance between Silicon Valley, Wall Street, and Washington. But despite his power and the ubiquity of his projects, no public figure is quite so mysterious.

Historia
On April 4, 1968, the death of Martin Luther King, Jr., shocked the nation. Later that month, the Reverend John Brooks, a professor of theology at the College of the Holy Cross who shared Dr. King’s dream of an integrated society, drove up and down the East Coast searching for African American high school students to recruit to the school, young men he felt had the potential to succeed if given an opportunity. Among the twenty students he had a hand in recruiting that year were Clarence Thomas and Theodore Wells....

Gave me a better understanding
Revisado: 01-12-23
In 1968, I was attending a different small, New England, college. And we also had admitted our first class with a significant number of blacks. Their experience has been discussed at our reunions and my business partner of thirty-plus years was one of those black men. So, I am somewhat familiar with the subject. But this gave me a deeper insight into their experience as well as a reminder of the circumstances and cultural environment of those years.
