Nita, Sharlene, and Billy Joe, all about to turn 80, are tired of waiting their turn for a funeral dinner. They each have a bucket list and are determined to tick off at least a few of the items before they go. So what’s left but to hit the road? They enlist two drivers—Billy Joe’s great-grandson, Ford, who has just gotten out of the Air Force, and Sharlene’s great niece, Joelle, a schoolteacher who has the summer free.

Schoolteacher Sarah McKenzie is desperate to help one of her students who walks around with a haunted look in his eyes. She reluctantly asks Jesse James Harte, the police chief, for help. Jesse unnerves her in more ways than one, especially when he turns his intense gaze her way. Jesse grew up as wild and untamed as his Old West namesake, but now he’s the law in this part of Wyoming. Jesse can tell Sarah is running from something that might be catching up with her. Jesse will risk everything, even his heart, to keep Sarah safe.

Reid's grandmother Gloria's broken hip means she needs constant care, but Reid hired Nurses 1 and 2 for their bedside manner with him. So for Number 3 he chooses Lori Johnson, the first candidate who seems immune to his brand of charm.
