Historia
In the year 2045, reality is an ugly place. The only time Wade Watts really feels alive is when he’s jacked into the OASIS, a vast virtual world where most of humanity spends their days. When the eccentric creator of the OASIS dies, he leaves behind a series of fiendish puzzles, based on his obsession with the pop culture of decades past. Whoever is first to solve them will inherit his vast fortune—and control of the OASIS itself.

Fun and engaging book
Revisado: 09-03-11
Extremely fun book - lots of twists, engaging characters. You don't need to be a gamer to enjoy this book (I'm not one), so don't worry that you won't like it if you're not. Wil Weaton is spectacular as the narrator - he's absolutely pitch perfect in every scene for how you'd imagine the character would sound (even through the part where he's referenced :-). It's been years since I wanted to race through a book to the end so badly. Bottom line - you have to listen to this book.

Historia
Kurt Vonnegut's absurdist classic introduces us to Billy Pilgrim, a man who becomes 'unstuck in time' after he is abducted by aliens from the planet Tralfamadore. In a plot-scrambling display of virtuosity, we follow Pilgrim simultaneously through all phases of his life, concentrating on his (and Vonnegut's) shattering experience as an American prisoner of war who witnesses the firebombing of Dresden.

Great to listen to; an American classic
Revisado: 11-22-07
I won't review the story - you can find that anywhere. I was concerned that it might be hard to follow on audio, but it wasn't at all. It's a great book. On top of that, Ethan Hawke gives a superb performance as a reader. His near-whisper tones (don't worry - it's plenty easy to understand what he's saying) are just the thing for the book. I was sad when it ended. So it goes.

Historia
Manfred Macx is a patent junkie, spending his days dreaming up ideas that will make him rich, very rich indeed. He patents them and then offers them up to anyone for free. In doing so, he has shunned the need for cash, preferring to live off the generosity of his benefactors. Enter uploaded lobsters wanting to defect, government investigations, and a dominatrix ex-girlfriend who works for the IRS and you've got yourself a hip post-cyberpunk tale.

Great story, poor narration
Revisado: 10-30-07
This is one of my favorite Stross short stories. It later became part of Accelerando (I wish that were an audiobook). Stross at his best - like the protagonist Manfred Macx, Stross throws out an abundance of ideas every minute. Unfortunately this audio version is marred by an ensemble narration that makes Macx sound like a cheesy cartoon character, and other characters (e.g. Bob Franklin) sound like caricatures rather than real people. I'd give only 2 stars for the narration, at best.
