Now I want to learn more
Revisado: 04-25-24
Really enjoyed the storyline and want to learn more about the Yoemenettes now. A few bits of the performance bugged me such as the way Ensign was pronounced. It’s en-sin not en-sign. Also the reading of hush little baby. I didn’t get reading it in a stony voice when anyone reading the book on their on would without a doubt sign it to themselves as they read. Anyway, I would highly recommend to anyone who enjoys wartime historical fiction. We don’t often see WWI books so this was a nice change for me.

Slow story
Revisado: 08-26-22
I honestly almost gave up on this one. Too slow to start but I eventually got into it. Probably halfway through. Good idea for a story but there was so much going on with little side stories that the meat of the story was a little neglected.

Historia
For years, rumors of the "Marsh Girl" have haunted Barkley Cove, a quiet town on the North Carolina coast. So in late 1969, when handsome Chase Andrews is found dead, the locals immediately suspect Kya Clark, the so-called Marsh Girl. But Kya is not what they say. Sensitive and intelligent, she has survived for years alone in the marsh that she calls home, finding friends in the gulls and lessons in the sand.

Slow to start but worth the wait
Revisado: 08-14-22
I was pretty unexcited about this book through the first few chapters, but it worked it’s way in and then I couldn’t wait to see how it ended.

Took a bit to get there
Revisado: 06-24-22
I’ve read a number of Jean‘s other books and have thoroughly enjoyed each of them. Well I did enjoy this one I have to admit it took me more than a few chapters to really get into the story as it seem to be a bit roundabout to start. Some of the voices that the narrator does were a little offputting for example Hugo often sounds like Stewie from Family Guy but overall it was a good performance.

What a beautiful story
Revisado: 10-18-21
What a way to end a trilogy! I laughed, I cried, I smiled, I gasped. Excellent story and so we’ll written. My only complaint is that the same narrator wasn’t used for this book as for the first 2. This narrator pronounced some names differently than the one for the first 2 books. I also had a hard time here and there if she was narrating a conversation between men because the voices sounded too similar. Still worth listening too though!!

The other side
Revisado: 07-24-21
WW2 history is so interesting to me and I’ve read several historical fiction books from the point of view of Americans or the British. This is the first I’ve read from the point of view of a German. Seeing the other side leading up to WW2 helps a bit to complete my vision of what life was like back then. The author really paints the picture that helps you see how young people felt and the deep influence the Nazis had during that time. It helps the reader to see how people got so caught up in it and why we can’t forget history so it doesn’t repeat itself. Really well written story. Very well performed.
