Unacceptable audio editing
Revisado: 08-30-22
I am only a couple of hours into this book and the only thing I can say for sure is that the audio editing is amateur at best. It’s so bad that one part of a sentence hurts my ears and another one is barely Audible. There is no middle ground here. Put the volume high using headphones and you risk hearing loss, leave it as usual and you miss parts of a sentence.
Robert Glenister is fabulous as usual though.

Historia
The brand-new novel in Bernard Cornwell's number one best-selling series on the making of England and the fate of his great hero, Uhtred of Bebbanburg. BBC2's major TV show The Last Kingdom is based on the first two novels in the series. From the day it was stolen from me, I had dreamed of recapturing Bebbanburg. The great fort was built on a rock that was almost an island; it was massive, it could be approached only on land by a single narrow track - and it was mine.

I know that reviewing this book is a waste of time as it is number 10 in a series but I will do it anyway as tribute to the author
I've read a lot of books, I believe more than 400 in fact. This was one of the best!
Well done sir, and thank you

The title speeks for it self
Revisado: 04-24-13
At the time I am writing this review (April 23 2013), this book has got 3,5 rating out of 4 ratings and two negative reviews. I completely disagree with both the reviews and the rating and I will tell you precisely why.
First of all, this book is about violent deeds. If you cannot stomach violence don't even consider this one. The same stands for those of you who can't stand bad language.
However, if you can accept that violence and bad language are, and sadly will probably always be a part of life, you can continue reading this review.
This book covers approximately 2.500 years of human history and besides of being filled with violence and bad language, is also filled with tails of men and women, that defied the laws of mathematics, statistics and probability. Furthermore, since history is filled, and sadly will probably always be filled with violance and that usually history turns by a bloody way, you can also get a ruff picture of how our modern world came to be. This book contains short stories, from all over the world, with minimum backround info supplyed by the author in order to understand them, about how genius, skill, courage and luck can alter the laws of reality and some times, turn the course of history.
To conclude, the narrator seems to understand what he is reading and succeeds to deliver the slightly ironic and flamboyant tone of the author. Listen to the sample, and you will get a good idea of what is to follow for 13 hours.

Revisado: 01-19-13
In my opinion the narration was very bad. In fact it stopped me from listening to the last third of the book, chapters 9 to 12 which are titled "Ice ages, Greenhouse planet, Mass extinctions and Can we survive nature and our own folly?" and which I found less interesting than the previous ones which completely fulfill the promises made by the publishers summary. So, my point is that you should listen to the sample before buying and be shore that you can stand this slow, annoying monotone for 12 hours.

Thank god Luke I read your review after finishing the book. I can't understand why did you include such a spoiler without an alert dude. I would report you, but after voting negatively the button disappeared.
Very good book guys. If you aren't familiar with Mr. Abercrombie's books you should start with the first law trilogy, and after that continue with Best served cold, The heroes and finally Red country.

This man has written in this book things, that if true, are very Very disturbing. However, as you very well know, the gall of a review is not to judge the sayings of the author but to persuade fellow listeners to buy or not to buy. In my opinion, the allegations made in this book are worth listening to whether they are true or falls. To be a bit more specific without spoiling the book, i will tell you that the facts given by the author do not concern the prison system and could altogether alter the course of humanity it self. Do you think i am exaggerating? Come on guys, buy it! it's only 2:30 hours long and costs $5.60, it is value for money. Besides, i am very curious to see your reviews and ratings.
PS. I hope i have persuaded you to buy

Historia
The First World War is one of history’s greatest tragedies. In this remarkable and intimate account, author G. J. Meyer draws on exhaustive research to bring to life the story of how the Great War reduced Europe’s mightiest empires to rubble, killed 20 million people, and cracked the foundations of the world we live in today. World War I is unique in the number of questions about it that remain unsettled. After more than 90 years, scholars remain divided on these questions, and it seems likely that they always will.

I was used to history books beeing boaring and monotonus, this book however is a completely diferent storry The author (this genius) has dedicated aprocsimatly 1 in 3 chapters (backround chapters) giving illuminating backround information about familly histories, historycal gossip and nasions history enableing you to follow the book even if you do not know what planet earth is. Further more he also gives such info even in the other chapters wich are more conserned in political and strategical events. I must also give credit to this fantastic narrator wich in my oppinion does a superb job not only by his general tone of voice, but also my bringing to life the words of long dead men. (listen to sample) To conclude i really beleve this book is a must reed if you are interested in history

Historia
Atticus O’Sullivan, last of the Druids, lives peacefully in Arizona, running an occult bookshop and shape-shifting in his spare time to hunt with his Irish wolfhound. His neighbors and customers think that this handsome, tattooed Irish dude is about twenty-one years old - when in actuality, he’s twenty-one centuries old. Not to mention: He draws his power from the earth, possesses a sharp wit, and wields an even sharper magical sword known as Fragarach, the Answerer. Unfortunately, a very angry Celtic god wants that sword, and he’s hounded Atticus for centuries....

If this book is a 4.4 listen Mr. G. R. R. Martyn's a game of thrones for example should be a 10 stars listen. In my opinion this is quite a childish book, however i can not say i wasted my time. The narrator was perfect and made the best of it. To avoid such trouble i think that audible should state the age of the reviewers. By the way I am 23 years old and i am not buying the next one.

Historia
Why we think it’s a great listen: Some books are meant to be read; others are meant to be heard – Water for Elephants falls into the second group, and is one of the best examples we have of how a powerful performance enhances a great story. Nonagenarian Jacob Jankowski reflects back on his wild and wondrous days with a circus. It's the Depression Era and Jacob, finding himself parentless and penniless, joins the Benzini Brothers Most Spectacular Show on Earth.

The main character of this book is named Jacob, the book is writen in the first person and is split in to chaptairs.
The interesting thing however, is that some of the chaptairs refaire to Jacob of 23, and others to Jacob of 93 years old,
in the proportions of about 2 to 1. I really enjoyed those refairing to Jacob of 93 but i had an issue with the others.
Having completely forgotten that the author was a woman, i begun to have my suspitions in chaptair 18, that means around
2h-40mins of part 2, from that point and for an other one and a half hour human relationships and
whits are blowne in the air.... (i had my evidence at exactly 3h-45min-24sec of part 2) To sum up: Great book, big hole
in the plot in part 2, great Jacob of 93 and great ending
PS No offence to you laydys, i love you all..

It seams to me that someone pressed the play button on him and he started (playing), i mean Mr. Steven Hawking has more emotion and pation in his voice. However, if you are interested in how the world is running this book should add a small piece in your puzzle of world views.
