Historia
Colin Hancock is giving his second chance his best shot. At 28, he's focused only on walking a straight line - getting his teaching degree, working out at the gym religiously, and avoiding all the places and people that proved so destructive in his earlier life. The last thing he's looking for is a serious relationship. But when Maria Sanchez crosses paths with him on a rainswept night in North Carolina, his plans are upended in a way that will rattle the foundations of his carefully structured life.

Best Book Nicholas Sparks Has Ever Written!

very disappointing
Revisado: 05-06-16
Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?
This book was trite and weak. The lead character, although she was a well-educated woman, was frequently pathetic and weak, especially at the end with her debilitating "panic attack." The male character, who generally inspired hope, with an extremely negative past, had to step in and "save the day" for the weak girl. Also, although the book was more of a mystery, with a love story thrown in, the mystery was, at times, obvious to the reader while the characters were oblivious to some of the answers that were staring them in the face. It made this reader want to scream in frustration! The ending of the book was ridiculous. This book was definitely not up to Spark's previous well-written works.

Never touch your idols: the gilding will stick

Very tough to get through!
Revisado: 01-31-12
Although I have always had a rule that I never give up on a book before I finish it, this one was tough. The narrator was abominable! She tries so hard to have good diction that she sounds like an automaton. Then, when she does use emphasis, it is usually inappropriate. The narrator ruined the story.

Historia
In pitch-perfect voices, Kathryn Stockett creates three extraordinary women whose determination to start a movement of their own forever changes a town, and the way women—mothers, daughters, caregivers, friends—view one another. A deeply moving novel filled with poignancy, humor, and hope, The Help is a timeless and universal story about the lines we abide by, and the ones we don't.

This book was so enjoyable! The various narrators made it especially fun to listen to, with their Southern accents.

Historia
In the autumn of 2000, Hope Edelman was a woman adrift, questioning her marriage, her profession, and her place in the larger world. Into her stagnant routine dropped Dodo, her three-year-old daughter Maya's curiously disruptive imaginary friend. Worried about how to handle Dodo's apparent hold on their daughter, she and her husband made the unlikely choice to take Maya to healers in Belize, hoping that a shaman might help them banish Dodo, and all he represented, from their lives.

a boring listen
Revisado: 09-29-11
Unless you have been to Belize, this book is terribly boring. In addition, the narrator has very little tonal inflection and sounds more like a robot than a human.

Historia
In the middle of the year, in the middle of her life, Bethanne Hamlin takes a road trip with her daughter Annie, and her former mother-in-law, Ruth. They’re driving to Florida for Ruth’s 50th high school reunion. A long-time widow, Ruth would like to reconnect with Royce, the love of her teenage life. She’s heard he’s alone, too…and, well, she’s curious. Maybe even hopeful. Bethanne herself needs time to reflect, to ponder a decision she has to make. Her ex-husband, Grant – her children’s father – wants to reconcile now that his second marriage has failed.
